A shark killed a surfer Tuesday off a beach at coastal Vandenberg Air Force Base following a summer of shark sightings along California's Central Coast, authorities said. Francisco Javier Solorio Jr., 39, died in the attack off the coast of Surf Beach in Lompoc, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Wow - 8 fatalities !

Seeing as we kill around 100 million sharks every year they have a lot of catching up to do.
 
Trevor Noah does quite a funny bit on Shark attacks in his latest standup (That's Racist!). I'm not really sure what the big deal is tbh...why do people get so surprised and freak out about shark attacks? Either swim in areas that are safe / under watch or be prepared to tango with a predator when you enter into their environment.

Dude millions tango with the deadly shark yearly and only a few get attacked, meanwhile we slaughter them in their millions for their fins.

If i was the shark population i would be waging a fking war on humans.

That's why I don't get why it makes headline news, and why people are so surprised when it happens. I agree - they should suit up with lasers and kick our asses for making devils of them and ruining their oceans with all our bs pollution. We've screwed up so much of the environment and yet it's the sharks that are out of order by attacking the prey that's in their natural environment? Lol.

Typical human behaviour, kills, destroys but gets shocked when a shark kills one human.

Our species is honestly one that should be removed.

Any person whom enters another entities habitat is asking for... definitely not advice.

To those whom lost family to sharks, you have all my condolences, but do not blame the shark! Then you have those whom want to see the world burn…
 
Its ridiculous. Did anyone see the Mythbusters shark special where they list the things that you are more likely to die from than a shark attack.

Loads up shark special - you are more likely to die from a hot dog, a regular dog, vending machine, ants, pig, horse, lightening, a bed or a roller coaster ride.

And all we want to is kill kill kill sharks.....humans are pathetic!

Not really, you make it sound like they want to eat us and they don't. we are not their normal diet and i think we taste like crap to them, that is why they nibble and very rarely finish off the rest of us. Mistaken identity is different to fair game. They want a nice fattie meal, like a seal. Perhaps if more obese people took to the oceans on a surf board the shark may be more willing to finish them.

You make it sound like they are hunting us and they are not, mostly we are mistaken for dinner in poor visibility and we sometimes look like seals.

This is not really news. In the greater scheme of things 65 attacks & 8 fatalities a year is nothing!

I reckon more people slipped in the shower this morning breaking their necks or cracking their skulls open leading to death.
