Scenarios :

Table as it stands now

HTML:
Team PD BP Points
1.Crusaders	205 8 52
2.Hurricanes	108 6 40
3.Waratahs 62 5 39
4.Stormers 49 7 37
5.Sharks 40 3 37
6.Blues 85 8 36
7.Chiefs 21 6 34

Their are three other matches of consequence to the Sharks this coming weekend (home team first).

Blues (6th) vs Hurricanes (2nd)
Reds (11th) vs Waratahs (3rd)
Lions (14th) vs Stormers (4th)

The other games will not have an effect on the final standings. All we need is one of the teams above us to stumble. We have three chances of that happening before we play. Unfortunately for the Stormers fans, for us it would be best if it was them as then we would only need a bonus point in our game to get through! :)

They are that is why I have not mentioned their game. It does not matter which way that result goes..... besides of course a few injuries to key players!! :) But it would be nasty to say that....

Also everyone below the Chiefs has no chance so no need to mention them either.

if either the waratahs mess up then it makes no difference, and have you noticed if the blues win with bonus point and either the sharks or stormers win normally they get through on PD,both stormers and sharks MUST win with BP,and hope to hell the canes beat the blues

Chiefs not being helped by injuries.

Chiefs coach Ian Foster has described recent times for him and his team in South Africa as a nightmare.

Not only have they struggled to come to terms with the prospect of another season out of the Super 14 rugby playoffs after their second successive defeat to lowly-placed teams on tour but also they have lost prop Ben May who was suspended.

"We've had a nightmare in the last 24 hours trying to figure it all out," Foster said in the Waikato Times.

Three players have been ruled out of the final match against the Sharks in Durban this week due to injury, another three are in doubt and four players are already flying to South Africa to join the squad with the prospect of more heading over on the next available flight on Wednesday.

Returning early are props Simms Davison (back) and Simon Lemalu (knee) plus centre Richard Kahui, whose ankle has failed to respond quickly enough to treatment.

They are being replaced by Nathan White, who played his first game of rugby for his Te Awamutu Sports club on Saturday after returning from back surgery, wider training group hooker John Pareanga and squad member Murray Williams respectively.

A positive for the team is that halfback Brendon Leonard will rejoin the team as he is now fit again and replaces David Bason.

"We're still assessing over the next 48 hours Sione Lauaki with his hamstring, Sitiveni Sivivatu with his ankle and Steve Donald with his neck, which is extremely sore and in a brace.

"So that could require further replacements but we will probably make that decision in 48 hours," Foster said.

X-rays found no fractures in Sivivatu or Donald but their injuries are both causing a lot of swelling and pain.
"It's a pretty unique situation where we could have up to six or seven players after that game who could be down and out."

Because of the injury toll and the judicial hearing for May Foster said they had had little time to analyse their 33-27 loss to the bottom-placed Lions in Johannesburg yesterday.

"We gifted them a couple of tries in the first half but it was a bad game to get hit firstly with a red card, particularly when we were scoring a try in the corner. We could have gone to 27-20 and momentum was swinging so that was a pretty significant issue.

"And I think losing Siti and Sione on top of Richard (Kahui), Brendon (Leonard) and Tom (Willis) probably didn't help us at all. It probably exposed us with our decision making and we weren't good enough in that area."

While a number of forwards had carried a heavy load, particularly locks Toby Lynn and Kevin O'Neill, the problem had not necessarily been in the forwards.
"We played a very physical Lions team, we didn't really get what we wanted around the field and I don't think you can put all that down to the forwards. We probably still tried to rush our game."

Hurricanes vs Blues draw could end SA's hopes

The Hurricanes could as early as Friday morning (SA time) crush the home semi-final hopes of the Stormers and Sharks when they meet the Blues in Auckland in a Super 14 match.

On a weekend of many permutations to reach the semi-finals and secure home semi-finals, the Brumbies and Western Force will play for pride and eighth position on the log in Friday's other match.
Three points ahead of the two South African hopefuls on the log, a draw will be enough to see the Hurricanes end ahead of them by virtue of a vastly superior points differential.

A draw with a bonus point would be even worse for the South African sides.

However, the Hurricanes - who have won their last two encounters in Auckland - also have to worry about the Waratahs as the Sydney-based side are only one point behind them on the log.

To retain any hopes of a home semi, a win over the Blues is imperative, and their points difference compared to that of the Waratahs will see them end second, even without a bonus point try. It won't be easy for the side from Wellington, though.

The Blues, currently sixth on the log, have aspirations of their own. A win by them will force the Stormers and the Sharks to at least win - and depending what the Waratahs do against the Reds on Saturday, the South African sides might need a bonus point just to qualify for the play-offs.

The Hurricanes are undoubted favourites. They have form, and a well-balanced side with three outstanding loose forwards enhanced by the availability of Jerry Collins to supplement Rodney So'oialo and Chris Masoe; a solid tight five despite the suspension of All Blacks Neemia Tialata; and a penetrative backline.

Ma'a Nonu is in the form of his life. Conrad Smith's steadiness and class at outside centre and the retention of Willie Ripia at flyhalf to add quicker ball make this a dangerous side that could well win the title.

The Hurricanes are favourites - if only because of the Blues inconsistency - but will be wise not to underestimate a side that has scored the second most tries this season.

* In as far as a side can call Perth home with all but a few of their players from elsewhere, that is where the Force will play the Brumbies in an Australian derby that should produce some entertaining rugby.

The Canberra side will be smarting from their defeat against the Bulls last weekend, and will want a decent send-off for their coach Laurie Fischer.

He was scathing after last weekend's loss, and with a leader of the caliber of Stirling Mortlock the Brumbies will want to atone for letting their title hopes slip in Pretoria.

Matt Giteau as usual could well hold the key to this match's outcome.
