Sharks Supporters Thread ver. 2008

Sharks in good position after friendlies

You know are in a strong position when you win 33-5 against the Lions and are still not happy, so Sharks fans have reason to feel confident about their team’s prospects for the new Vodacom Super 14 season.

The one big problem that the Sharks need to sort out before the new season starts officially is their discipline. Another three cards were handed out by the referee on Wednesday night, including a red for Springbok prop Jannie du Plessis on his debut for his new team, and they also copped two last week against the Cheetahs.
:eek::eek:

Just as I suspected ... there are no Sharks supporters left on the forum

Sorry, just causing trouble here because Off Topic is a bit dead right now and you happen to insult the Lions by posting that ridiculous score :D

Got out of jail but it's 4 log points! Nice.

Anyone think that Schalk is in the dwang? He deserves to be!

Yes :D

As I posted in the S14 thread SA teams haven't adjusted to the ELV's nearly as quickly as the NZ teams

Not for the original offense but rather for his bad mouthing Roos as he left the field!

Indeed, but this has been a long time coming Roos has ruined a lot of games in the Currie cup last year, and the Stormers game last week.

I'd also be hella p*ssed off if I was sent of after an incorrect decision. :D

This is all I can find for the moment.

It was not clear on Saturday night exactly what had transpired, but Sharks captain Johann Muller said that he had been involved in a minor altercation with Stormers prop Brian Mujati when Burger joined the fracas from the side. This was spotted by referee assistant Willie Roos, who was the target of some gesticulating and gesturing by Burger as the Springbok left the field.

Burger’s behaviour did not create the right impression, and incurred the wrath of the fiercely partisan 29 000-strong crowd, but Stormers coach Rassie Erasmus said afterwards that he would only comment further on the incident once he had seen the video footage.

Whatever the reason, this is not soccer where you can talk to the ref or his assistant in any manner you wish.

We'll wait and see. ;)

Burger in Trouble

Stormers could face massive Burger blow

The Vodacom Stormers could pay dearly for the brain explosion that caused Schalk Burger to gesticulate and show his anger toward refereeing assistant Willie Roos as he left the field after being cited at Absa Stadium at the weekend.

However, the laws regarding coming into a fracas from the side are clear, and both Muller and South African Rugby Union referee manager Andre Watson agreed that a yellow card would not be unexpected for the offense.

The bottom line though is that Burger’s subsequent actions were unacceptable, and he could well incur a suspension when he goes in front of Senior Advocate Jannie Lubbe of Saru’s judicial committee at noon on Monday.

Citing commissioner Corrie Strydom cited Burger on Sunday for “acting contrary to good sportsmanship”. It is unclear at this stage what sanction could be meted out as this is a first for South Africa.

Muller was involved in the fracas that Burger joined, and stressed that at no stage did he feel Burger was arriving at the scene to physically harm him.

“I was on the floor having a little meaningless scuffle with (Stormers prop) Brian Mujati and Schalk came in from the side,” said Muller.

“He was very unfortunate because he didn’t mean to hurt me, I didn’t feel there was any danger. The law is quite clear though about that sort of offence, you cannot join a fracas and come in from the side like he did.”

I do think that Roos was spineless here. He should have reported Burger to Deaker immediately. Deaker would then have given Burger another yellow, second yellow equals red. Bye bye Burger!

Here we go.

Burger handed a two-week ban

The suspension runs from February 23 to March 8, inclusive. He has a right to appeal the sentence.

During the hearing, Burger conceded that by showing signs after receiving a yellow card, he acted in breach of the law. He strongly denied abusing Assistant Referee Willie Roos.

Oh really! I wonder what he calls what he did other than verbal abuse of the assistant referee. Lol!
