Megagraphix (WWComputers in Cresta JHB) have dropped their pricing on MacBook Pro's and iPods, and its all lower than iStore and Core.

I hear that their new range will be lower than anyone else. Seems like they are coming to the party.

41k for a 17" Macbook Pro. Really? Do SA consumers have "fool" written on their faces?

With a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz in there it's a obsolete [old model] built mac.

The top of the line spec'ed 17" costs R36,126.97 in the states and thats with the 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, $650 SSD, 8gb of Apple ram, and the $50 Hi-Resolution Antiglare Widescreen Display.

That is overkill for a laptop. At that price a Mac Pro with 3x the performance would be the obvious choice, unless someone really needs to 'edit' in the field.

Yep thats exactly what its designed for - field use. Ive seen guys go out into the wild and film animals for months and need to do editing right there. Would be really difficult carrying a MacPro around hey.

AGH they go and release this just after I got my MacBook Pro. You can never have the best too long. One thing though thats bothering me abit is the SD Card slot on the new MBP's. I hope there is more you can do with this slot than just slotting in a memory card ?? :cool:

Actually it is much tougher than your average plastic lappy,

- The Mag-Safe power lead reduces potential for clumsy disasters (speaking from experience :rolleyes:)
- The aluminium unibody makes it extremely rigid.
- There are no parts that can fall/break off it, such as the battery (internal)
- Movement sensors help protect the HDD with sudden movements (if dropped). And if running a Solid State Drive you can shake and bump it to your heart's content.

I'm tempted to drop mine just to see, but the sensible side of me is spoiling the fun. :cool:


As for protecting it against theft. I think I'd rather take an old Laptop on the road...

Putting a rubber cover over a delicate laptop (MBP) will not make it significantly tougher, and if it drops from desk height - it's gone.

So a MBP is not ruggered by any measure.

If a MBP drops from desk height it has a sudden motion censor that locks the harddrive saving any data loss. The solid aluminum case would get scratched but not dented that it distorts the machine. The laptop would still work perfectly unless it drops full onto the screen maybe cracking it etc, but you would still have a perfectly working machine.

I would add words like should not and might not etc. I have seen mbp's stop working when chilling on the desk. If you drop a mbp on a hard surface you are most likely going to have some consequences.

If you see the prices of real rugged laptops and the measures involved in keeping them so you would see the rather large distinction between them and a pretty shiny "hard" outer case.
 
Ya but this is just in the hard drive, any laptop can do this.

Sure the Macbook Pro is not rugged but it's certainly very solid - it feels stiff and strong, if you catch my drift, in comparison to other laptops.
 
ok, not big on macbooks etc, but explain to me why it is R35,500 for something HP sells for 15K .... i just never understood why mac's are so expensive?

This has probably been discussed a million times and most likely will now spark another pc vs mac debate. (although i doubt the 15k vs 35k has similar specs etc...)

Yes they are expensive and are over-priced. Yes we have decided to rage at core with reference to their pricing and overall ridiculous service to the industry. No i am not going to get involved in this one.....well maybe..

haha, no... didn't intend to start a debate, to each his own.....

just checked out the site, and saw WOW!, and i checked some specs, seemed a bit much.

so now i understand all the fighting on here with these core oke's... so give them hell (do you at least get a vaseline tin when you buy?)
