I got my first pair of Docs in 1977 when I was 11 years old and have had a few pairs over the years. But these Docs now are so paper thin you’re lucky if they last a year or two before the leather rips.

Got each of my kids a pair as school shoes. They were going through 3 pairs of cheap knock-offs a year. The docs have been going strong for 2 and a 1/2 years of use.

Looking good. I think my son’s boots lasted less than 2 years where they ripped through the leather at the bottom of laces where the shoe naturally bends.

Could also be the version. I know they have versions that require no break in. These were not that version and required break in.

Yeah. Could be. I never thought of that. When I was a lad they were like putting pvc pipes on your feet for a couple of weeks before they got comfy

Staying OT, it seems like these trainers are becoming all the rage in SA at the moment. I got complimented on the maroon pair by a school kid a couple of days ago.

I've heard Solovair might be a potential alternative for docs. They used to make docs under licence decades ago.

I don’t know how it goes now, but when I was buying them in the 70s and 80s the uppers were made by different companies who would buy the soles and make the boots.

Go have a look at the Rose Anvil youtube channel. Modern Docs are definitely not what they used to be. Can even be called junk. Unless you get different versions as someone stated above.
