Shopping for a new Bed

Hello,

I am in the market for a new single / double bed.

Has anyone here recently bought a new bed?

Where would you recommend I should shop for it?
I see Dial-A-Bed delivers to your home (at a fee).

Is there any stores who might have promotions available that I can wait for, if it will help me get a better deal?

We went through this tedious task a while back, and yes, DAB will deliver to your house, at a cost of R200- I believe (that's how much they charged us).

Go check the DAB at Atterbury Value Mart, they almost always have specials sometimes.
 
Yip, got recommendations over the phone from DAB and ordered - no hassle at all!
 
Wish we were closer to DAB...also looking for a mattrass, and need a specific one as I have Scoliosis, so it means we might have to fork up to 6-10k out! EEEKKK!!!
 
Well, good beds are pretty expensive. We paid R17k for our Dunlopillo mattress, but don't underestimate he value of a good night's sleep. I'll do it again if I have to.
 
I bought a few new beds (simmons, seally, seally do-not-turn matress, etc) none was good for me. A few years back I bought from a local bed maker, one of those memory foam beds. And it's not just a lot cheaper, it sleeps a 1000 times better than anything I slept on before.

Spring sleep systems are old technology. They remain popular because of their low cost and high profit margins (83%+). They also need replacing every 5-10 years which is great for the billion dollar/year industry.

I don't know if the memory foam would last as long as the 10+ year guaranteed seally bed range.

My gran has had her Sealy Posturepedic bed for over 40 years and still sleeps like a dream :>
Has anyone here been sleeping on these modern bed designs (pocket coils / memory foam) for over 3-4 years? I would love to hear your opinions.
 
We had a "cheaper" memory foam mattress before buying this one, and had it for a good number of years. And the only reason we bought a new one was because of damage caused when we moved house a couple of months ago. We thought we would be able to ignore it, but alas.

I won't buy another "conventional" mattress again.

Doesnt it get really hot when sleeping on Memory Foam mattresses?
 
Pocket coil plus memory foam are most comfortable.
Simmons beautyrest worldclass myself.
I don't buy from dial a bed because they rebrand their sets so you can't do price comparisons - anti competitive.

Never ever again.

Most spring bed only lives up to their guarantee if you weigh less than 100 kgs. And you have to prove to them that there is no big people sleeping on the bed.

My parents had a Seally forever. I convinced them to try the same one ( memory foam ) I have and they still thank me.


I do not have aches and pains any more. I used to sufffffeeerrr on a spring bed. Never ever again. I'm saving up for a Tempur. :)

It’s not like normal foam. Normal foam is a suana. Memory foam might be a bit hotter because it is denser ( the springs are hollow )but my parents live in the north and they do not feel the difference.

Get a "Natural Latex" bed, damn heavy mattress, but probably one of my best buys ever. 4 years down the line and it is still exactly like it was the day it got delivered. Very firm, you can jump around on one side without feeling any movement on the other. Cool in summer and they claim you won't ever get "bed bugs".

+ 1 for Dunlopillo, have been sleeping like a rock since getting ours about a year ago.
 
I just went to the guy that made my matress. He took my weight and lenght in account and then made this matress with different layers, like this I've been so impressed, that I've replaced all my beds in the house with this beds. Here's a quote from the article:

The best type of memory foam bed is one that is made of a combination of different layers with different densities. The photo (top-left) is of mattress with 5 layers. The top layer is always the softest layer and is made from thick 2-3LB memory foam, the lower (2nd) layer is made of thinner harder/denser memory foam as well as the one below it. Those two layers are mainly for support of your body weight when you lay down. The fourth layer is usually regular density memory foam which is harder then the 1st layer but softer then the 2nd and 3rd layer. The last is the 5th layer which is the hardest from all and is made to support the base of the mattress…..
