I think if this is possible, you will gain alot of new clients :D

Actually MWEB don't host this at all. it's hosted by their CDN partner level3, who MWEB I think peer with directly. We can always look at prioritising this traffic as it tends to happen after hours and weekends. if there is a problem.

The way this business works, if you have an issue, you call support, if they can't resolve it or it requires authorisation, it comes to me, and I'm very fair in what everything that will result in a better experience for our customers. Within reason, of course...

I'm not privy to MWEB's peering agreements so I can't really comment on them, but afaik level3 have no peering arrangements for SA at all, so I may in fact be wrong about the peering situation there. I know that in my experience there was buffering on MWEB watching SS Online as well. We can test it out, but more often than not the buffering issues ended up being international link issues and Level3 issues as well.

It's really tough to diagnose this sort of thing, although I previously performed a detailed analysis and posted about it on their site. Why they don't host locally I really don't know - it's really a case of counting pennies...

Suppose I am also in that boat. Host for 14 months 700GB space, unlimited domains etc.... R740. Just cheaper hehe.

That link works perfectly on my 2 Mbps Web Africa account - I'm pretty sure Afrihost doesn't know how to manage certain things properly.

Nice to know. Yeah why I thought get them to test that link out before I move. Don't want to move from B to B, I want to move from B to A+. :p
 
Can anyone on a crystal web account post a traceroute? I want some more information on these accounts before jumping in.

As for Supersport using Level3 CDN, M-Web hosts level3 CDN nodes on their network, so it still helps if your ISP peer with M-Web, which means you then get direct access to the level3 caching nodes on M-Web's network.

For example, on VOX's network who peer with M-Web, doing a traceroute to footprint.net address (Level3 uses footprint.net for their CDN) you can see it goes to M-Web and the node is hosted on a M-Web IP address:

If Crystalweb can get Supersport streaming smoothly then you will have my full attention. Why dont you guys test it this weekend during one of the SA Super 15 matches on Saturday afternoon? I would be interested to know what its like.

I'm fed up with sluggish Supersport streaming and i'm sure many others are too. ;-) @ SinisterKay
 
Another question for Crystalweb. Do you guys plan on offering smaller capped packages? Something like 20GB or lower? I'm sure there will be a market for smaller pacakges amongst the general public (The MBB bunch are too l33t for small data packages, so dont base your offering on the 5% broadband elite hanging out on MBB.) :)

Uhm, shouldnt this thread be moved to a new thread as its all about Crystalweb now and not about answering the OP?! Are there another thread discussing Crystalweb that I dont know about?

Tinuva, thanks for this. We don't currently peer with MWEB but it's then certainly something for us to consider. Currently our SuperSport streams will come from an international node but our international link is great, and based on current uptake we are doubling capacity by the end of June on our international link too...

We're evaluating our capped packages in light of recent developments by other ISPs to "lower" their rates, and we'll be releasing a product in the near future that will match or beat their pricing. We will also offer lower capped offerings - currently our market focus is on large volume users as an entry point and we'll be expanding this soon. Much to be excited about here. Including fibre projects on an FTTH and FTTB basis but more about that when we officially launch.

For now there are no threads dedicated to us as we've not yet officially launched,and we'd prefer to keep it that way as we're limiting initial pre-launch uptake to 200 customers, as this is the number I'm happy to support until launch...

and as per Tinuva, could you paste a traceroute for us from one of your accounts, it would answer a lot of questions in one go.
 
Don't think a tracert is fair if they don't want to divulge upstream provider before launch.

major cities are dbn, ct, jhb from what I've been told.

Not that we don't want to. It's just that we need to leave some stuff for our launch, otherwise it's just a little website launch and nothing else. Give us that at least. :D

We're actually very proud of the partnerships and relationships we've created and secured here...
 
Looks like I'm almost good to go, I'm in the 200 queue. One question though, I don't want to sit without internet and since I need to cancel on the last day of the month with Telkom Internet, as they cancel your account immediately, can I have my Crystal Web account also activated on the 31st (Saturday), and not be charged for May?
