Shops Who Keep Your 5c Change

I tend to agree with arf9999 - no point having a whinge about 5c - my time is worth more than the 5c. And for the case of leaving a whle shopping basket on a Friday afternoon at shoprite for being short changed 5c???

Wow, this is a bit too much!!

The next day I decided to return it as I did not want it anymore and I could get it cheaper somewhere else. When i returned it I had to wait for change as they were out. And then there's the petrol money when u drive back.:sick:

Shops don't really worry about the small change.
If the shop wants take the change to the bank, they have to count out 100 coins and put it in a little bag. They have to pay someone to do this (the teller or whoever).
Then when they deposit the coins at a bank they get charged a nice big cash handling fee as well.
It probably works out cheaper to just throw the coins away.

I put any 5c or 10c in the charity tins if there are any. They are stealing from charities, how about that?
 
I am a customer from hell.
I LOVE Pick n Pay.
Something scans at the wrong price - its FREE. And I watch like a hawk.
Some branches are worse than others - and in those, I write the prices down on the shopping list.
I have, in the past, bought 3 items, and gotten 2 of those for free.
As to the change - you best give me my 5c - I will not tolerate being ripped off by someone trying to make up "taxi fare".

he then got back R99.95 for a R99.99 item - loss 4c

total: 5c
 
I'd make a point of getting back my 1/2/5c and then putting it in one of the donation tins on the counter... like I always do with non-silver coins.

No... when he returns the item, the item price doesn't come into affect, because he should get R100 note back, but instead he gets back R99.95, which is a loss of 6c (including first 1c).

Remove the item from the picture, he paid R100 over, and got back R99.94?

-i trust that all the 5c moaners always in all regards obey all laws in this country - seeing that they are such principle upholding people.

they should mark all prices round end of story - i couldn't care less about leaving the 5c for the tiller of the company, and i anyways do that up to 1 Rand i let them have the change its really not going to make myself a millionaire by keeping up all the change ( being anything less than R1) all the time.

I trust you're one of those people who accept bad service, and don't mind constantly being screwed over by corporate, or do you work for one? People like this are the reason we get the service we do.

No.

The total amount of money he has given the shop is R100. That never changes. At no point does he ever give anything other than the R100.

The shop never gives him anything, other than the R99.95. At no point, other than that one time, does the shop transfer any money to him.

So, he has given a total of R100.
He has received back a total of R99.95.

He lost 5c.

LOL! Before the whole incident he had R100. After it was all over he had R99-95c. That is five cents. If he were to claim the spurious extra 1c he would be guilty of what he claims the shop is doing. He could make his millions returning such things, coining a cent a time! So much for principles!

Personally, having eyesight that is quietly getting worse, I cannot tell the differences amongst the copper/brass coins, and put them in the tin or give them to the packer.

No way. Degradation of service is gradual - the smoothing effect at work.
Never budge a centimeter - and you will never need look back and wonder "how did we fall so far?"

I try. And I try hard.
I don't cheat on my taxes - I dont speed, I pay my bills on time, and I come to a complete and total STOP at STOP signs. And so on.
I am probably more pedantic in my attempt to obey the small laws than most people I know.

In my job, I am the hardest person on myself when I make a mistake - and I hate making mistakes. I will work at an anomaly, until I find out what caused it - even if the higher powers are not too fussed.

And I expect the same.
