Short Downtime

Hi MrG

We are really struggling. I am in contact with Hetzner by the are also not certain what could cause this problem...will inform you guys as soon as we have answers.

Could it have something to do with Telkom and their line problems, that the forums keep losing access to the database or something like that?

Basically all the services run on the same server, so the current internet related problems should not play a role. It is interesting that Finance24 is also having problems...been on and off the whole day.

Do you think it's just a mechanical issue, or could be something worse like a denial of service attack?
 
Oic, thought they might be seperate servers for load balancing. Maybe a simple quick restart to get everything in order again. Can't see how a server choke so quickly, hope you get it fixed asap!
 
It seems a MySQL database problem?!?!?!?

I suggested that they look at a DoS attack. I doubt that it is purely a traffic issue that is causing the problem, but we are looking at load balancing for future purposes.

I think the fiber optic failure between Rosebank and Bellville, that then resulted in transmission problems between the same, has caused a huge number of problems on all ADSL networks, and possibly with other lines as well. Verizon also had international line problems. Has been terrible packet loss and ping times on ADSL lines in Cape Town all day (no matter which ISP you are trying SAIX/IS/UUNET). It first only affected Bellville, but then spread to greater Cape Town this afternoon. I suspect Telkom has had to reconfigure their transmission network a bit arround some of these problems, and that has led to other problems.

On dialup no problem at all, so prolly just an ADSL problem.. mind you I don't dial in before 7PM so who knows :rolleyes:
 
Just noticed something fishy. I get this security breach notification from my firewall when browsing this site ---> HTML_Mshtml_Overflow
This signature detects a malicious Web page containing a large number of script action handlers in a single HTML tag.

It is spawned by this server ---> dedi65a.your-server.co.za

ANything to worry about from your side?
