Shortcode subscriptions are double opt-in on Vodacom?

This is what worries me too. If it is left to the WASP it's entirely possible to still be billed for something you didn't opt-in to. The entire subscription model should have been done from a network end from the start like premium SMS and not left up to the WASPs.

I want a confirmation SMS from Vodacom itself. Anything less I will still fight if there are any fraudulent charges.

With the new Vodacom system, the subscription process is handled by Vodacom not the WASP, so it is not possible for a WASP to bill you for something you did not opt in to. Vodacom will have a full audit trail of the subscription process.

It should have been done this way from the start. The other networks need to follow this example.

The confirmation SMS is indeed sent by Vodacom.

The only thing that the new system will not prevent is misleading advertising.

Great news.
+1 to Vodacom for leading the industry.
Hope it is fully implemented soon, and by all Service providers too...
