Why celebrate a political event that has absolutely no bearing or meaning for South Africa?

interesting, thanks for updating me, I last looked at the acts before then, when I was chairman in a complex and wanted to let all residents know they were not allowed to discharge fireworks...
This again shows how the law is changed/manipulated to accommodate the lack of policing, anyone could now claim "it's been a tradition in my family for generations to discharge fireworks on my birthday"...
So basically they made it legal with a nice little loophole actually written into the law, how very kind of them...
 
I support a ban. Diwali is about lights meaning just lighting lamps will be sufficient. In addition to the harm it causes to animals, a few people also wind up with disabilities during this time after accidents.

The fireworks is modern day consumerism, similar to how Christmas is now.

With that being said, racial tensions do arise during this time (specifically between white and Indian people) and sadly the bigots on both sides often drown everyone else out. The racists and Hindu nationalists from both sides usually make the debates nonsensical and insult matches. The bigots are the biggest hindrance to any progress being made and it does not look like they will stop anytime soon sadly.

To be fair, South Africa does have a significant Hindu population. The government allows schools which have a sizable Hindu population to take the day off.

I usually don't respond to you because most of your comments are troll comments but I will make an exception to this one. It's quite strange that you weirdly persist in spite of always being ignored, one would think that you would eventually get the message as most sane people do.

Fireworks are by and large not cultural but bigger boys using their children as an excuse to play with bangy things, a very non- intellectual / philosophical thing....see rednecks and similar. :)
 
This field is overdue for some innovation. Why cant we have fireworks that are quiet and dont post as great of a fire risk? I used to love fireworks as a kid. I appreciate the drawbacks to them now, but surely we can come up with a middle-road here.

Only people who are for fireworks are the inconsiderate cnts in society.

Sort of. We were British not that long ago. More like its a throw back to Empire.

Yes, fireworks should be banned, but I'm old and grumpy.

The most important thing is to be there with your pets. They can become self-destructive if left alone. Some run away from home and others hurt themselves while trying to jump or run. They will be uncomfortable but the presence of their owner is important for them to be somewhat comfortable and get out of it unharmed.
