Should one buy an iPad now?

I am actually waiting to have a look at the Xoom. Hopefully that will be worth the wait !
 
Because of the iPads (currently) superior app ecosystem, I’m leaning towards that.

Interesting statement. What do you base it on? Number of apps? Number of paid apps? Quality of software available? A gut feel? Rumours and conjecture?
 
The way you will use a tablet is far different, and far more personal than other hardware (like a lap[-]top[/-]dance)

Also remember that cell phones, while somewhat, ehh... smaller, have a vibrate function. ;)

lol true, but I only used the iPad for reading. And after a hour or 2 there is noticeable eyestrain.

The iPhone (like) is a mini ipad anyway with more ram and a smaller screen.

+1 to the eyestrain. I read magazines on it, but it kills my eyes after a while. Kindle is superb for prolonged reading.
 
All those people carrying around tablets, what exactly are they doing with it? Nothing, nothing at all, maybe some are playing angry birds.
Tablets needs content specifically created for tablets, and right now even with huge app stores out there, genuinely useful apps are in short supply, and even then, do you really need mobile computing beyond your smartphone. The interactivity and connectivity tablets (could) offer with other devices (eg. tell your car to turn the aircon on and get ready for you, or some other home automation stuff) is a good few years away, we're not ready.

Ask anyone who has a tablet if they would buy the next iteration of their favorite device? Maybe Gartner needs to revise their sales targets based on that statistic.
 
Xoom is going to be too expensive. Waiting for the asus will will slot somewhere between the ipad2 and xoom. Maybe even cheaper.

15 million people don't know why they bought an ipad. Weird.
 
Let all the early adopters get it out of their systems, I will wait for a while yet. A tablet device would not perform half the stuff my PC is required to or that my shell phone already does, anyways... moving on..

Dude... There is a market for it. Specifically if you have a PC. Its so easy to whip out the ipad to check something instead of booting the machine. Its also a viable gaming platform. It isn't necassarily a carry around device. Its especially useful when you go on short trips/holidays.
 
I've just rooted my Nook Color, running Android 3: Honeycomb...
For less than R2000 shipping and customs included.. I am not complaining! :D

How long have you been using your tablet? If more than 2 months, I guess it's an iPAD as the others have not been out that long.

Maybe explain your personal experience with the device and how the iPAD ecosystem failed you. Especially the lack of content issue.

BTW, every person I know will for sure buy the next gen if it provides a suitably big enough improvement. But no-one will ditch their tablets.

Including myself and I've been carrying one for more than a year now. Did ditch my laptop though.

Huh? The iPad has over 65 000 apps created specifically for it! And I have loads of "genuinely useful apps" for it.
Stop looking at the free rubbish and you will see some fantastic apps
