Employers have the right to know who is working for them. As such, both criminal records, as well as matric results, should be made publically available for and to all individuals in the country. These are things that define an individual for their entire life.

I voted no. Not for privacy concerns, but the reality is, matric exams are the worst stress most kids will have experienced in their lives. So much riding on them, so much pressure, that if they've underperformed the perception of their failure being perceived as "public" could just be too much to bear.
A baby goat is called a “Kid”

Imagine telling a prospective employer to refer to the newspaper instead of you supplying them with your matric results, I like it, it can make life so much easier.

Other, make it opt in. Those who say they can't get it from the school have to arrange for someone to get it in the newspaper in any case so I don't see why they can't make arrangements for someone to get it from the school or just phone them. This is more about the media and publicity for their dying medium. I also don't see why it matters so much if it's only numbers that are meaningless to most.

There's a difference between them being publically available and them being published in a newspaper.

Considering how many kids end up killings themselves because of these marks being public, that’s another reason it shouldn’t be public.

The 90s are long gone. There is no need to print results on a newspaper. Use sms, whatsapp, emails or, worst-case scenario, get your results directly at school.

Gauteng High Court rules that matric results should be published
The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has ruled that the Department of Basic Education should publish the matric results on media platforms.

The National Senior Certificate results will be released on Thursday.

Last week, the department announced that matric results would no longer be published on public platforms, saying doing so would be in violation of the Protection of Personal Information Act.

Should the Department of Basic Education publish matric results as before or were they right in not doing so, ostensibly due to POPIA concerns?
I mean we already experienced the number of matric learners who committed suite for not seein there names on newspapers. Scared that Family and Friends Will be laughing AND judging them. Its supposed to be their secret. Not for the world to see!!! Once published then must be prepared to buried our children, sisters, brothers

I really need to see the proof of any harm inflicted. As can be testified by all matriculants of the past decades. Myself included.

That is really BS!

Either way it makes no difference. That girl that is taking the department to court's family is ridiculous. We live in a digital age. You can get your results in a variety of ways.

It is only their Matric Exams Number that is published and unless you have inside information (Which you shouldn't have) then they are anonymous anyway.

Otherwise all the results be sent to the cellphone number used to rigerster at the beginning of the year. The very same way we receiving our srd R350 grants. It's strictly confidential

Since the educational system is a mess that it is and the government keeps on failing the youth by not providing quality education. I do not see the reason to publish learner names and their matric results.

I say Yes. Mostly because of my opinion that adolecents have a lot going on in their lives and the "peer pressure" of knowing their efforts will be made public will incentivise putting in more time to achieve better results. If it isnt published there is a subset of students (immature) who will just F around and expect their parents/others to deal with the consequences of not caring.
