No school is a joke anyway. Doesn't prepare you for the real world in any way whatsoever.

Should the Department of Basic Education publish matric results as before or were they right in not doing so, ostensibly due to POPIA concerns?
I voted no. Not for privacy concerns, but the reality is, matric exams are the worst stress most kids will have experienced in their lives. So much riding on them, so much pressure, that if they've underperformed the perception of their failure being perceived as "public" could just be too much to bear.
I agree. There is to much hype surrounding matric.I voted no. Not for privacy concerns, but the reality is, matric exams are the worst stress most kids will have experienced in their lives. Simply just do not do matric and you will survive.Considering how many kids end up killings themselves because of these marks being public, that’s another reason it shouldn’t be public.
I would agree but within a grade it is not hard to guess someone's student number, they are organized by surnames and schools and you sit in the order to write exams. Particularly in a smaller school you'd be able to work out who was who.Yes, there are no names in the list, it is all exam numbers and results, no infringement at all. Unless you have the database it is meaningless.
I agree, send everyone's results via SMS. There is no advantage to putting the results in the newspaper apart from benefitting the newspapers themselvesNot necessary in this tech age. Make them available online for access only by a student. They already do that with those SMS service, WhatsApp and other online avenues just maybe not free but the department should make it free. This newspaper thing puts undue pressure on the matriculants. They have nosy neighbours and what not buying the things to see if others passed or failed instead of worrying about their own failing spawn.
