Sounds like a good idea but I see too many ways to exploit it:
  1. A tweet goes viral, some company pays the account owner to change it to an ad. This already happens with thread replies.

  2. Create a tweet that goes viral, swap out the tweet contents to make the users who retweet and like look bad. E.g. A left-leaning user creates an account to appease a right-leaning audience, it goes viral, change the content to something promoting white supremacism, now it looks like all the people who liked it are racist.

  3. You reply to a comment. That comment's contents later change to make your response seem stupid or change the context so your tweet reflects badly. E.g. "Do you like ice cream?" changes to "Have you committed murder?" Suddenly the response "Yes I love it" means something very different.
It gives a lot of space for bots to start creating very generic content that will get a lot of likes (like typical "99% of people can't figure out what 7 + 2 is" Facebook posts) and then once popular enough, quickly turn the content into something harmful to the platform and its users.

That's what Twitter has been afraid of, and I don't know how they're going to manage it.
