A quick breakdown of what is what:

Evernote and Waze should change places in the screenshot, only now saw that I mixed the two.

I do not like the "default phone view". If someone looks at my phone I like them go, "how does this work?"
:D

Mine after day 1 with my spanking new white 32gb S4. Coming from an iPhone 5s so on a massive learning curve for now. The level of customization from a pretty much stock state is frigging surreal.

Congrats on your S4.

I see you have some actions set there as icons. A tip if you're coming from Apple. Have a look at launchers. I use Apex Launcher Pro, great launcher. Basically it "skins" your home screen. You can do some awesome thing with it, change the number of icons on the screen, the size of the icons, folder icons, folder transparency, better app drawer, hide apps, make new tabs in the app drawer etc etc.

One of the cool features is advanced gestures. So for example, just swipe down anywhere to reveal the notification. Two finger swipe down to show the quick settings. Swipe up to show the recent apps. Two finger swipe up to show settings or whatever. You can also configure double tap to do something as well as pinch in and pinch out. Nice thing is you can do the gesture from anywhere on the screen, no need to go to the top of the screen for notifications!

imho, if you're not using a launcher on Android, your're not doing it right. Before you ask, you don't have to root and there is no danger to it.

Even better, root and install CM10.2 with Apex for even more features, but don't do this with your new phone ;)

Why not? :p

sand_man- 'grats on the S4.

Heh, I would probably root my next phone immediately. I rooted and installed CM10.2 on my S2 and have never looked back, but I don't wan't to scare the guy off Android just yet with stories of bricking.

Just finished installing jellybean on my p6200. Looks great straight out the box. Now to customize and lose some of the desktop crap

Yeah, I got the Nova Prime Launcher as well as Buzz launcher. How do those 2 compare to Apex Launcher Pro? Didn't realize it but it seems advanced gestures is on by default and very convenient yes.

I'm only holding off on root as I'm waiting for a microsd card, 32gb is ready for collection from Prophecy. Will collect in the am...

Thanks man!! Loving it!!

I had a rooted HTC Desire about 3 years ago and had many "moments" with it. I suspect the process has come a long way since then and is a lot more refined then it was back then.

Really just waiting to make sure everything is working the way the manufacturer intended and once that's confirmed I will be rooting and loading a custom rom of some or other designation. I assume Wannalite, Omega's and CM10.2 are the one's to consider.

1) Ok if you have Nova Prime, stick with it. Apex Pro and Nova Prime are pretty much the same. Nova has a few unique tweaks, but nothing major. The "Buzz" of Buzz launcher lasted all of 5 minutes for me. The app drawer is

2) Yeah, rooting is much easier now and much safer. You still get idiots that flash their phones with ROM's from other phones :(

3) Good idea. I'm on CM10.1 and not planning to switch to another ROM.

Just thought I give my opinion on roms.

I have probably tried most of the rooted Samsung roms. Omega seems to be the best rooted Samsung Rom for me.

When it comes to the "pure" Android experience, I have found Paranoid Android to be the best in performance, features and functionality. I'm currently running the latest PA 4.3 Rom on my Note 2 and the phone is so much more snappier and smoother. Virtually no sluggishness whatsoever.

I used to prefer rooted Samsung roms, but after trying Paranoid Android I doubt I'll ever go back.

+1 to this. Have been using PA since my S2 days, it really is excellent.

Appreciate the feedback. Found what I believe to be the right ROM for the i9500 (PAC 4.3) but it is all of 189mb!! That sound right to you?
