What are the prices like that you can get on them from Russia? On Amazon they seem to go for around 2k+- for the Komandirski range.
Anything between $80 and $120. DHL is around $70'ish (whether it's 1 or 5 watches). The Amazon Vostoks all ship from Russia as well (at least, all the ones I could find) and shipping on that is also around $60 each. The selection of Vostoks that ship to SA on Amazon is rather limited though, whereas the whole range is available directly from Russia.

Bravo.

What is the finish - bead-blasted?
Thank you very much. The case itself is bead blasted, then clear Cerakote (the virgin stainless colour is pretty interesting in that deep grey once bead blasted). The bezel and crown was also bead blasted but that got a Titanium Cerakote. It's the same baked ceramic coating used on firearms so the finish is pretty much indestructible, much more so than bare stainless can be.

That whole movement was completely rusted up and that got rebuilt. Gonna start a watch nerd thread soon that has more pics and details

I wouldn't gloat. Your tribe is filled with the very worst examples of super-cringe associated with this hobby. I'll dig up some examples for the thread.
Case in point:
IMG-8733.jpg

Only reason it's here is for sentimental reasons; it stopped working years ago (hence the crown sticking out too far). Lately my wife has been on my case to bring it back to life (hasn't been serviced since 1994) but I've been putting it off. I'd rather play with my "fake" watches to be honest.

That bead blast/Cerakote is a briiliant solution to banged-up cases and bezels. Do you farm that job out or DIY?

Yeah it cuts down prep time substantially and it leaves a very tough finish, ideal for watches. There's a guy down the road that does that for me; he specializes in such small items doing firearms, bike parts, exhaust tips - that kinda thing. PM me if you want his details, he's a great guy!

not gloating, just don't get why people would buy a look a like Rolex instead of another brand with a DIFFERENT design.

It's like not being able to afford a pair of Nikes so you go buy the fakes just to stunt

Just my personal opinion
Which examples are you referring to?

I'm surprised your hand does not have gangrene yet.

For those of us that wanted to grab a few Vostoks, I suspect the window for doing so is closing rapidly. Not that I need one, but it is something interesting I want to add to my collection. I suppose it all depends on if DHL will still ship out of Russia (due to pressure from NATO on Russian foreign policy). Only thing that gave me pause in the past is that DHL shipping costs the same as the whole watch, so was hoping someone felt like a group buy; 4 watches should do it. Any thoughts? Granted, I haven’t been following the whole Russia / Ukraine situation very closely But many collectors are concerned at the moment
I'm up for this. I'm in CT.

Excellent! I think if we take 4 it'll make sense. Not sure if anyone else is also interested?
I used UPS Express Saver option on Komandirskie.com the last time. Took about a week.

I see they still have this option. 2555 RUB or about ZAR 477. Then offcourse there's VAT and handling fee once it arrives. Will check my records how much I paid last year.

The Rolex design (in particular the Submariner style) inspired many other brands and not just the cheapies...many big names stole some design ideas from the Submariner as well. Its iconic and you can not blame others from being inspired.

Nothing wrong with Rolex homage watches search it on YouTube ... there's tons of them out there from the cheapest and nastiest to luxury homages.

And yes, people love the look. Hence their reason for buying homage watches or watches with Rolex inspired design elements. Its just looks good. Duh.

Huh, hmmm. Why do I remember the last price for shipping was around $80? Can you please check and make sure? I'm known to be blind at times. If it's less then we just grab 2 or 3 watches.

I see the RUB:ZAR rate is better than when I imported last year. Must be because of the Ukrainian conflict.

Based on what I paid last year it will be something like:

Payable when buying:
· Cost of the watch: RUB??? @ 0.17 = ZAR ???
· UPS Shipping: RUB 2555 @ 0.17 = R435

Payable to UPS upon arrival in SA
· Customs VAT at declared value converted to ZAR at 15% on value of 110% of item
· UPS Disbursement Fee: R120.75
· UPS Brokerage/Admin Charge: R172.50

They under declared the watch on their shipping invoice (and informed me via email) which was surprising to me but hey i'm not complaining. Declared $20 instead of the $70 price. The VAT as a result was much lower.

I ended up paying: R1026 for the watch (RUB4999) + R981 for the rest (R688 UPS Courier to Komandirskie, R339 in UPS charges + VAT to UPS SA).

Ok that makes sense. Just understand that, if we do this, I'll insist on them declaring the correct value for the batch as I'll be importing under my importers code. I got caught like that before (Chinese seller under-declaring without my consent) and the last thing I want is my importers code being red flagged as it'll screw up future imports.

Have you picked what you want yet? There's pretty much only 1 I have my heart set on, but will grab another to offset shipping if I have to

EDIT: I see they use DHL now, probably why it's more expensive. To be honest, I much prefer DHL over UPS (each one of their 7 shipments in Jan-Feb was a nightmare)
