Why would the service price be so ridiculously high?
I've just paid for one through the local Omega office care of a jeweller. The price is in line with what you pay when dealing directly with Bienne. It is still exorbitant but nowhere near 50K.

Normally with Omega and most brands, servicing is fixed price and dependent on case material, quartz or mechanical, chrono/3hander/other.

I was quoted R11k for a service of my Omega Seamaster. When I protested, the dealer commented that the chronos were R50k to service.
Glad to see he was exaggerating!

Still steep though

The services from Rolex, and likely Omega too, are more akin to full restorations. Basically you get back a brand new watch

Not sure I quite understand the measurement according to Twelve o’ Clock app because looking at my phone time and my Duro, the Duro seems to be about two seconds ahead from when I synced it to NTP on the 15th of August. If it keeps this trend, it will end up gaining around 24 seconds per year.

got to love automatic watches.
indeed, especially automatic diver watches approved by Putin himself:
(well not really Putin, but it'll trigger you more than saying approved by Yuri Gagarin who made it the first watch worn in space ;))

Ok that's more like it.
The minute track starting at 55 is unusual. What's that about?
It’s the Russians, they are always a little backward :whistling:

This is a decent price for a beater Duro (sans the Sailfish logo if that’s of any concern to you)

Savage scumbags. All of that for a bunch of crappy mallwatches and Tissots. The minister who ordered the robbery would have only scored a nice PRX or two.

So I never owned a watch before but want to give it a try. I'll be 44yrs old in two months. Mid-life crisis sort of.
If you were to choose between Omega, Tag Heuer, or Seiko (how long is a piece of string?). I know nothing about watches AT ALL and not sure if I'm going to treat it the way it should be treated., but I thought why not give it a try.

I bought a Fossil this week. Should be getting it tomorrow.

There is a significant price difference between high-end automatic watches. Of the 3 you mentioned, Omega prices range on average between R80k to R200k, Tag Heuer beween R40k and R100k and Seiko anywhere from R2k to R250k (Grand Seiko).

Thank you. Seiko (low-end) it is then as a start. I'll probably get second hand for Omega and Tag Heuer in the future

Dont discount the offerings from Timex. They've been making watches for 170 years and their offering is very diverse. Below is on my wishlist for next year.

Does it command the same swag at the other ones? My sudden interest in watches may wear off at some point (hopefully not), so I'm looking for something I can sell if another mid-life crisis hits.
