One of the most unique watches I have seen; love they did the glass and strap.

I'm loving it! What motion is this based on? Was it an existing watch you reused? It is a real 1892 5 Shilling Single Shaft coin. Decided to send it to a watchmaker in the US. They cleaned and 'antiqued' the coin which gave it that 'rustic' look and then turned it into a watch. The Stainless Steel bracelet and black dials was my own choice.

Nice. Best watch so far in this thread by a mile.
I actually didn't know of such services, that's why I'm getting into messing with watches myself. That really is awesome how they did it though; gives me a few ideas to try later down the line. Thanks for the details! The watchmaker used a Swiss Quartz movement, which powers the watch. It is also water resistant up to 50m. No, it was not an existing watch. You get to choose things like the bracelet and the arm dials. I just basically sent them the coin.
I decided on the more expensive Stainless Steel bracelet, because it looked good with the silver coin. Also, due to the size and thickness of the coin, you do not have a lot of other options available in terms of a bracelet. Also, due to the fact that the coin and watch is heavy, I do not think a leather bracelet would work well.
I also decided upon the Antiquing of the coin, because everything would look too 'silver'. The rustic colour of the coin now breaks the silver colour and really looks good. In fact, the features on the coin stands out much better. The coin is in tact. They did not need to split it. Seems they only did the hole in the center and the movement was placed below the coin itself.

Thanks man. I have a few but this is my 'forever watch'.Nice. Best watch so far in this thread by a mile.
Wow that's stunning!
Very Cool - The Moon watch is my ultimate.
pure class.
I've had 3 of these SNA411's (2 stolen). Currently on the hunt for the SNA413 too.Nice! I have the same one. Sadly it's back in the watch case as I've lately developed a stupid obsession with collecting Seikos.

Pretty much the only Quartz Seiko I have. All the other ones are Automatics; I actually have a whole pile of broken ones coming in next week that I'll either repair or mod
Nothing wrong with that.Very Cool - The Moon watch is my ultimate.
Sadly I only have the Casio Ediface Version paying homage to the Speedmaster

Are you in South Africa? Where do you do your hunting?I've had 3 of these SNA411's (2 stolen). Currently on the hunt for the SNA413 too.
Best feature IMO is the fact that its so dynamic with different straps.

I get the feeling there are treasure troves of quality vintage pieces lying around in drawers as there isn't much of a watch culture or market, aside from medallion men and show-off politicians.

Prices are nuts and they're taking the piss on margin.Due to lack of availability and crazy local prices 100% of my current watch scroll had to be imported sadly.
Pretty much all my watches are imported, mainly because of variety to be honest. In the case of Seiko, we mostly get only the made in Malaysia ones here, not the Japanese made ones (not that it makes the Malaysian ones inferior, the Japanese ones just make it a little more unique).Based in JHB.
