Showmax 2.0 launch date and prices announced

Is this even watchable? Why not 240p?
The bitrate is under 100kbps as well so doubt it.

Even the 1080p stream looks like 2.6mbps so I wouldn't expect much in terms of fast moving action. Will likely be h.264 as well.

But if you look at most complaints on streaming apps its about data usage so they are catering to that market.

whether they are considering 4K support....they found the data consumption is excessive....clocking in at around 17GB per hour.

So Compact+ now has to pay R89? That's a price increase. Also not supported on the Explora anymore?

Soon Jan will do article two in the series.

How does the new Showmax pricing compare and what you get.....

Although that needs catalogue info but..

Prime : R79/pm
Netflix:
  • Basic: 99 ZAR/month
  • Standard: 159 ZAR/month
  • Premium: 199 ZAR/month
Disney : R139/month
AppleTV: R129/month
Showmax: R 89/month

Shrinkflation.
There must be a catch

Most likely. Was using Showmax Pro Mobile to watch the EPL but decided to try an IPTV service and while it works, it's fiddly and the buffering is annoying.

If they can give me the EPL at that price, I'll sign up yesterday

MultiChoice told investors last year they expect it to generate $1 billion (R18.7 billion) in net revenue in 5 years.

Uh.. At R100 per month that would be 180 million subscribers which can't be true. Is most of the revenue coming from value adds or are they planning massive price hikes in future?
