Showmax 2.0 launch date and prices announced

However, it was not a priority for the relaunch because they found the data consumption is excessive for most of the African market — clocking in at around 17GB per hour

If my car can hit a top speed of 300kph, I'd like to get to that limit even if I don't technically reach it all the time. This is an utter bs excuse. I mean really now

Uh.. At R100 per month that would be 180 million subscribers which can't be true. Is most of the revenue coming from value adds or are they planning massive price hikes in future?

If that includes all of Africa, well, maybe, but still a long stretch

I've not been following this, what's the difference between Showmax and Showmax 2?

If this is an issue, then:
Existing features users have come to expect, including downloading content for watching later, kids profiles, and controlling the quality of the video to reduce data consumption are available on the new platform.

I read it, and I am now as up to date as you.

Will current subscribers automatically be changed to Showmax 2?

Well, as I don't expect them to run both concurrently, I would expect them to move you over. What is not clear is what the max resolution will be, lots of talk about low bit rates. Or what the exact content changes will be. They are saying a lot, but not giving a great deal of solid detail.

Guess 12th of February is not that far off. But don't have any great expectations for this service.

Supposedly 1080p but very odd that there is no 720p listed so it might just be upscaled. Thats quite a low bitrate for 1080p

Compare Netflix and thats double for 1080p, not including things like hdr etc etc

Also in the states there's Peacock Free and priced, so I do wonder.

I am more surprised that showmax has been running for 9 years already. Time flies

If the EPL can agree to this why can't the rugby and cricket boards come on board? Pretty sure MC is stopping that themselves.

?

Its stipulated at R89 vs R99 which is a price drop and puts them on par really. Peacock also has some great shows and movies so be interesting to see what their lineup looks like.

In spirit,

You clearly don't know about Multichoice tactics

How much bet they're going to fnck up the "My List" tab just like they did with the DSTV app update ... So all info from shows you're following and what episodes you're on will most probably be lost down the drain.
Uh.. The showmax UI on my Samsung TV App went down the drain months ago. All the filtering and category options disappeared. You had to work to see some stuff. Really terrible terrible UI. Not yet as bad as the Dstv website (which must be a "my nephew knows HTML" situation because that thing is a mess).
