ShowMax tested

Tested on a 10MB line and picture was blocky. Switched over to Netflix and everything fine in HD.

Based on the reported experiences sounds like more heartburn than its worth. Imagine running speed tests, trace routes, rebooting routers, shouting at the dog and complaining to your ISP every time you want to watch a show. Nah.

I cannot get it to work. I subscribed to ShowMax premium. I installed Widevine. I'm using Firefox 39.0.3 and Windows 8.1. I have latest version of Flash Player.

When I click on an item to play it doesn't load and just gives me a black screen with the details of the show below it.

oh dear :(

Works perfectly on the Android app (samsung smart tv). Each movie/episode takes about 10 to 20 sec to load, but after that it's smooth.

+1

...and if running a DNS service would you have to switch region every time between watching Trompie and Mad Men... ?

+1
They should just submit the app to the US Samsung store or open it up for all regions - they can still apply region locking to the actual video streams.

Works on my Samsung Smart Tv. Is it just my imagination or does the smart tv version have less shows available ?

Seems they block the app from streaming anything if your IOS device is jailbroken, didn't read all of the thread so it might have been mentioned in the previous pages.

Takes a few seconds to patch it out with Flex2, but still, why put this stupid check in there in the first place.

I mentioned the jailbreak check the day it launched, I'm pretty sure the reason is people that don't know better hear jailbreak and immediately think piracy, so they think if you jailbreak you will steal the content or some ridiculous notion in that line.

Tested too and disappointed, 10mbps up down connection streaming via laptop and chrome. Takes almost 3 times as long as netflix to load and quality isn't even comparable

Just btw, I could not get proper quality using vox, switched to afrihost free account and HD quality instantly. The only issue I see is that the audio is lagging +- 1second which is really irritating

I have no idea why that show never made it to dvd?

It's probably the best thing to come out of the sabc and is a great show, use to love lying on the couch on a sunday watching it.

It's probably the only South African show I liked. Made me want to travel all over the country

I have cancelled the service so it doesn't renew after the 7 days.

The sound sync is still not fixed so I can't be arsed to ever use it again.

My 7 days started on Thursday, so if by Wednesday the sound is still out of sync I'll be cancelling too. I have not watched than 5 minutes of any movie or show. The audio sync issue is just too irritating.

Also the buffering, and the occasional 360x resolution on a 10mb line. Flick over to Netflix and no problems.

Think I'll check back in a couple of months.

Must say, the reality of SA internet means that streaming (Netflix, Hulu, Showmax, etc) cannot be relied upon yet.

Netflix has been flawless from the first day I started using it. (Given it was already around for a while by then).

Hulu - because of the adds and buffering I never used.

Showmax - Sound Sync, horrible interface, doesn't show episodes as watched or continue where you last stopped watching. I used it for about 10 minutes total and I won't use it again. Not any time soon anyway.

Agree with Pitbull ... Netflix is fine. Watched a film last night in HD ... no buffering at all.
Problem with Showmax is definitely with them.
