Hi all

I'm anxious to try out ShowMax tonight (free trial) http://www.showmax.com/eng/browse

Anyone know if there are regional restrictions on ShowMax because my TV (previous gen Samsung Smart LED TV) is set to another region... for reasons. I can obviously check when I get home in two hours, but I'm too excited to wait (lots of shows like Game of Thrones and Sopranos are on ShowMax but not on Netflix). :D

Have had Showmax running for the last hour, and during this time the quality of the stream has been really bad. When in window mode, you can clearly see the blockiness of the stream. Once you go to fullscreen, it's even worse. I'm running on a 5Mb Dsl line and not once has it gone 720p. Has anyone got their stream to go HD?

They'll call all these gremlins early teething problems. I'll call it: "They rushed this to defend their monopoly and bank as many customers before Netflix launches". I reckon that I'll be hanging back a fair while.

I hope this makes Netflix enter SA sooner. Even if their content selection is poor, I don't really care, I can always switch regions for different content.

Giving Naspers a head start on anything is never a good idea. Yes, we all hate them and their monopolistic ways but don't be mistaken, they are VERY GOOD at what they do.

DSTV get the absolute maximum they can out of their customers, which is great for shareholders.

We as the consumer need DSTV/Naspers to face some decent competition. Sport may be a stumbling block for a while, but there's still a market for people who just want series and movies at a decent price.

You should really list your ISP.

People on Afrihost seem to have issues, while those on IS based accounts seem to get HD just fine.

Yep, you're right. Not giving the full details does not help anyone. I'm with CrystalWeb home capped.

Normally get HD quite quickly on Netflix, so I suppose ShowMax will just need a bit of time to get their services up to a similar level.

I'm with Telkom ISP on a 4meg uncapped plan. I sometimes get Netflix in HD, but usually not. ShowMax looks like sub-240p.

I can confirm there definitely are region restrictions in place. I was still on my US and UK VPN service and the Showmax site immediately told me the "Sorry, ShowMax is not available in your country yet." .

BWAHAHAHAHA. Chevron tries to start an anti-Afri Host, thread gets denied.

Ok, my biggest problem with Showmax thus far, is the fact that it doesn't seem to show which episodes / movies you've already watched. I'm used to using Kodi, which tracks these things for me, how am I supposed to remember this stuff? Surely it isn't *that* difficult to implement?

**EDIT**
P.S. I'm on Afrihost, and it's streaming beautifully.

Are you with unotelly? Try activating south african channels and see

The Android App does not work on my DroidTV MX2 box.

I can browse the Showmax content, but when I try to play something I get the following message:

"This device does not seem to meet the minimum security requirements"

The Android version is 4.2.2
My device is NOT rooted.

Does anybody know if this problem can be resolved ?

I am still waiting for a reply from Showmax support.

The other thread said that showmax only works on smart devices like phones, tablets, tvs and PCs not through an android player?

Id like to know if you can hook up a laptop directly to your tv via hdmi and use your phone app as a remote?
