I'm 2/3rds of the way through it... and I agree.. they're ALL tripe...

AND its no wonder that Max got into k@k for letting this be aired...

Is it not possible for you guys to approach this whole thing with a bit of investigative method? You have been presented with the hypothesis that there was a Boer who had visions of the future, of which some were recorded and which some are believed to have been fulfilled .

Of course this requires an open mind and no preconceived ideas that would influence you either way. You have been presented with the evidence, you investigate it and come to a probable conclusion:

1) No evidence to suggest he was a seer and/or that his prophecies are real and valid
2) Partial evidence or fantastic coincidences to support.
3) Overwhelming evidence of support.

If your conclusion is 1) is it really necessary to be emotional and unscientific by calling him dellusional, a BD crackpot etc? Cant you just say you dont believe and if necessary provide reasons why without all the emotive language?

This is what I am trying to do.

I did that initially then his "prophecies" were presented.....

And they're no more scientific that Nostradamus who was also a crackpot BS pusher...

Nothing he said has come true.... other than as random events, he never predicted Aids, or Mandela coming to power, or Chernobyl or ANYTHING.. he put down random events which may have come true simply because they were so vague.

He wasn't completely illiterate considering he read the bible. Apparently it's the only book the man ever read, which explains his tendency to prophecise...

Prove that he foresaw the divorce and death of Princess Diana from this -

A ditch is in the Union and a woman emerges from the top end. She is dressed in khaki and a sieve is above her head. When the woman disappears, ears of wheat are fully developed. A thin stream of yellow water runs across an old road from North to West, and when the water had finished running across, a large flock of merinos walked along the road.

A lady wrapped in mourning cloth (death) and a sieve on the western side. There is a large shining table with cotton lying on it (dirty trick). A pile of ash lying there

... and I will believe. Really.

A double edged sword I think. It meant he wasnt unduly influenced by opinions or ideas but also that his frame of reference was so narrow that he had difficulty explaining his visions or hallucinations or whatever.

Oh great... now we are denying the Holocaust now.

Don't worry man, you can believe that he holocaust never happened and I'll believe that the future can't be seen.

He only read the bible and you can claim he wasn't unduly influenced by opinions or ideas?

Prophecies have a tendency to be self-fulfilling. They also tend to be followed vehemently by people who stretch writings and events to suit the prophecies. I've never seen evidence of any prophet being accurate, nor do I see the point of a prophet and what purpose they might possibly serve, nor do I grasp the concept of prophecies etc.

Prophecies are absolute bullshyte, punted by nutjobs and crackpots. Can anyone explain to me what the logical point of a prophet is?

Well the Bible doesnt go into great detail about Boer freedom, English and South African politics and the like. I meant if he was reading foreign publications, daily newspapers or weird and wonderful fiction books or books on Nostradmus etc etc he might have gotten some ideas that would influence his outlook on life and thus his visions.

If you read his ' visions ' they are all about farm animals, wheat and women.

This is all he knew apart from his afrikanerdom, communism and the evil west. I can't see any evidence that he refers to anything outside his scope of reference.

Exactly

Hmmmm... I've quietly followed this thread form page 1, and I must say it's been thoroughly entertaining if nothing else...

MC, not only was Oom Van Rensburg clearly an illiterate, possibly schizophrenic farmboy, you are quite possibly suffering from a similarly certifiable condition for wanting to attach any value to his inane ramblings. Damn, I thought the bunch of nanas wanting to deny the moon landings in last week's marathon thread were sad individuals, but this just takes the cake.

Forget about Oom Van Rensburg & try to actually do something constructive with your time...

I suppose we will have to see whether the Vierkleur indeed does fly again. I assume that would be clear enough evidence for everybody?

And Im not talking about in Piet Pogenpoels backyard.

A small dark fly just sat on my pc screen while the Eagles were playing on the radio. A breeze is blowing the curtains creating shadows on the wall. The tumble-dry is almost finished its cycle and there are two empty coffee cups on my desk next to a half-finished packet of orange creams.

This means Manchester United are going to beat Chelsea 3-0 next year, a man from the east is going to go to the west, tomorrow a small brown person will raise a flag outside a shopping mall in Lagos, the Dalai Lama is going to have 2 spoons of sugar in his cereal tomorrow and the price of orange juice is going to rise by 13.67 percent.

Yeesh - I could become famous !

And knowing all of this still means diddly frikking squat to anyone, unless you're a bookie. So again, I just don't understand people's tendency to believe in and defend this rubbish...

EDIT: I like the Manyoo prediction. The Dalai Lama one I'm not too sure about...

daveza, you need to wash the coffee cups, and eat the offending orange creams. This will lessen the appeal your abode currently holds for small, dark flies. Also, these strange visions will disappear & normality will return...
