SIM CARDS NOT WORKING

Not a happy camper Afriguy, if you r listening - received my SIM today but it wouldn't connect in my Blackberry or on either of my USB modems. BTW - I did set the APN to Afrihost and rebooted my Blackberry 3 times - will be more than a little P'd off if I get told that once more.

After more than an hour on the phone with the call centre, I was told that my Sim card was most likely "not provisioned" and that, unfortunately there was nothing that the call centre could do - I had to call MTN directly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That really made me fume so I told the call centre guy that I wanted the manage to phone and explain to me why, if I had signed up with Afrihost , they could not see to the provisioning of a SIM card. That was an hour ago, apparently Rigen or whatever the manager's name is, is to chicken to call. Quite frankly, it sounds like BS to me - the one call centre consultant said that the system was saying that the card was connecting to the network. (Although this was not the case on my side at all.)

So, yeah, not blown away in any regards by your "service". BTW, I tried phoning MTN, I can't get through to a consultant without a cell phone no - not provided - and I can't dial out using the MTN sim - it says "error in network connection.

Mine too, is still not working. Delayed delivery, SIM still not working (despite promises from the call centre that I would be called back shortly), no rollover of data that I am forcibly not able to use... Yeah, not a great way to kick off this campaign, Afrihost...

We're really sorry about this.
I do have your PM in my inbox, I'll be replying shortly.

Having to contact MTN definitely isn't the right process. We'll pass on the feedback to our Support guys and make sure that the right info is conveyed going forward :)

If you're still having issues could you drop me a PM too? I'd like to check things out for you.
The data was never set to roll-over - it works just like our Capped ADSL products where you'll receive xGB per month.

I had dropped AfriMan a PM on Monday already, will forward to you.

The problem I have is that is was charged a pro-rated amount for the data, and I feel that I am entitled to use it. At the moment, I cannot, due to reasons beyond my control. I really don't see why my data cannot be rolled over given that Afrihost has prevented me from using it in the allotted window.

Afrihost service useless - Fortunately I only lost R58 - don't allow yourself to get taken for a ride.

I Pm'd Afriguy and he asked me to reset the device on the 25th. I did so and PM'd him to tell him that it still wasn't connecting. Haven't heard another word.

So far the "Cheap" internet access from Afrihost has cost me R58 to them + nearly R150 in phone calls to the call centre and still no luck. I may pay more at Vodacom but for R200 I would at least have been able to get 1GB data and a connection that actually WORKS.

"Pure internet joy" - what rubbish - "pure internet scam" is more like it - they can afford to give you data at such cheap rates because they know you are never going to be able to use it.

Have been very late to come back to this, but I must commend AfriMan for his efforts in sorting this out. He ensured that my SIM was provisioned, even if it meant that he had to do it after hours.

Thanks again AfriMan, for the excellent service. Am getting rather good speeds to boot.

I'm really sorry we've let you down here.
I see that a re-provision on your SIM has been done yesterday with our Support guys. I've also replied to your PM with regards to this.

There definitely isn't any scamming going on here :)

Awesome to hear it!

Apparently I am too stupid to be able to set up the settings properly on my Blackberry. We are now back to blaming the settings on my Blackberry. Amazing how it didn't work in a Nokia, two USB modems or a different Blackberry model either. Deal with Afrihost if you have limitless patience and unlimited amounts of time.

Sim still not working my side but a connection is supposedly showing on their side - I have neither the time, energy or patience - Thank goodness I didn't go whole hog and buy the router.

Here are some of the gems I was told by the "trained" call centre staff:

1) Reset the APN to Afrihost and reboot device - clearly a ruse to get me off the phone.
2) Your modem is not compatible - but when I asked what modems were, I was not given an answer.
3) Your Sim is not provisioned and you will need to call MTN directly - which was subsequently done by the call centre.
4) My personal favourite - It doesn't work with Blackberry because of BIS!!!!!!!!!!!

Got an SMS confirming that the SIM had been provisioned and guess what - still not able to connect to the internet. I have reset the APN, tried it in 5 different devices and rebooted all - pure internet joy wouldn't be so bloody difficult!!!!!!

Done with Afrihost now - just not worth the stress!!!!! I'd rather pay Telkom or Vodacom to annoy me - their trouble shooting actually works.

My Afrihost SIMS expired on the 30th at around 10pm or so, check your email for the 08xxxx@afrihost has been cancelled email.

I got mine at 22:08, and lost out on the 2-3Gb of data left on each of the 2 SIMs I had. Afrithieves.

Help

Hey guys maybe someone can help me. I have a blackberry 9900 and no matter what i do i can not get it to work. It works in a Samsung tab but not on my phone or another blackberry (all i can use at the moment) i have phoned afrihost, mtn and my service provider and no one has been able to sort it out.

I see it does work and i want to use the service because it is the best offer out there at the moment. I just wish it would work on my phone.

I have reset the device, changed the apn 100 times and followed online help and still got nothing. I put in in the tablet and it worked first time so maybe someone out there can help who had the same problem.

Cheers

You mean that the Afrihost data sim "does not work" on your BB? Does the BB show a signal with the Afrihost sim?
