SIM registrations must be linked to Home Affairs data

Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub has called for a "more sophisticated" SIM card registration system in South Africa, and Farhad Khan, former MTN Zambia CEO and independent consultant, agrees.

Speaking to 702, Kahn said the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-related Information Act (RICA) remains relevant.

With the way the general masses change their phones and phone numbers on a quarterly basis, this will never work.

Sure, all our details are already compromised so let's add more admin so the big corporates and government can pretend they are doing something.

And how will this work practically? The RICA does not stipulate you must be South African to register a card.

" while others said Ngubane sold his smart ID card for R500 to buy drugs."

Spread the word.
Then maybe next election we'll have a lot less votas.

And yet ... there is no way to ask certain (unnamed) network operators to block and delete all SIMs/numbers allocated against your name except numbers you specify (e.g. due to SIM swaps, porting out/in, etc).🤦‍♂️
Instead... they up the limit.
