Hi all,

Those using MTN network, how much does a sim swap cost when / if you lose your phone or it gets stolen etc.

The action of swopping should cost nothing.

In some cases they might charge for the SIM card itself which should be R70-R100 max.

Seriously?

RSAWEB want to change me R150 to replace my sim card that I lost - I could be happy with R50 and I go collect it from their offices, but R150... That's a bit drastic.

Think I paid 20 bucks for the sim form Voda when I needed a smaller one. Bit of a rip of considering you can buy them at supermarket tills for a buck, but it was only 20 bucks.

The MTN shops will charge you a couple of hundred rand to do the sim swop.

You should be able to do it by just buying a sim card from CNA (or anywhere that sells MTN sims for around 99c), get it RICA'd and then when you put it in the phone just say sim swop instead of allocating a new number.

That will only work on prepaid. Unless it charged for contracts in the last 2 years.

Sim swaps on contract used to cost R136.80 when i worked in the call centre about 9 years ago- I've made some calls and it looks like it now costs R110.

Just wanted to update you guys, I went to fetch my "replacement" sim card from RSAWEB's offices yesterday and I see that the price I paid was R85.50

you can go buy a prepaid sim at any supermarket for like a R1. To do the swap you can call the call centre - should be free. If not complain - tell them what do they want, for you not to spend money making calls for a month while you dont have a sim or if they want to give you a sim so that you can spend money on their network

Trying to strongarm a company is not the way to go, you wont get any where with this tactic.

Lost my phone on Monday, had number blacklisted/disabled whatever they do.

Contract is on my fathers business, what details ID etc do I need to take instore with me to get a new sim?
Can they do it at any store?

Company letterhead requesting the sim swap, copy of your father's ID ( validated)
