Simcity 2013

Your answer to "the biggest f up in the history of online gaming" is to charge for it monthly as well?

I don't know what you're smoking but I want some

if u charge for it monthly you have more bucks to add capacity. In game purchases could also bring in funds because the model they are following currently is not working.

The current model is working fine for them... they could care less if it is working for anyone else.

Yeah, EA didn't really have a big budget with Sim City.

EA have already noted that they will have lots of DLC content though, even for just making your city limits larger.... they fully intend to milk this puppy, so don't worry, you will have plenty of opportunities to throw more money at EA so they can spend it on [-]CEO bonuses[/-] more servers

Quoted for truth,

You can imagine everything left out of the game will eventually make it in as DLC, as seen in The Sims games

Where did you get that from? Maxis said they might increase city size limits later, but they never said anything about making us pay for it.

Regardless, it's a very good game. I'm loving it so far. They just need to sort out their damned server issues.

I have only had a few irritations with not being able to connect but of late it has been pretty easy.

LOL. I bought 5 copies on Friday. Yes, 5. Okay, one was for my brother and he paid me back. One was a birthday present for a nephew and then the boy and girl child got a copy. This weekend had much time spent answering questions about moving stuff once you built it and how do you get people etc etc. And we've on our 3rd region together. We've had Maxis and EA roll us back, lose us, not sync us. You name we've had it.

But this last time we restarted because one of us made a stupid play. Why restart? Oh, just because. No reason for it. What was the stupid play? Deciding that the city hall needed to be relocated. My brother sent in the bull dozers and rebuilt it where he wanted it and then found that without the department of utilities that the water works and sewerage no longer work. (I am fairly sure that I read somewhere that this wouldn't happen but I am quite glad that I hadn't suggested that).

Irritation - it is practically impossible to avoid the crime lord thing. The only option is okay.

I've had that gridlock on my roads and half the city has burnt down because of it. The firetrucks sit in the jam. So I am now trying for an optimal route layout. Some of the articles say that the grid layout is about as good as you can get but I've found that the suggested road layout has a few problems. To explain. When you lay down dirt roads the game suggests a grid pattern using a dashed line. And if you drop road on those lines you get a pretty good use of space. However, I found that a some point I couldn't get high density industrial buildings because a city block isn't big enough. It seems that two city blocks (and the extra bit for the road between them) is. Just something to bear in mind when laying out the city.

I wondered about the city specialisation. I mean it's just a button to get you access to some other things to plop down. Well, at first that's what it looks like. But if you are trying to get a refinery you actually do need to be specialised. I had 5 oil field going along with upgrades to the number of jacks just to get to the Petroleum Head Office. And then we restarted. But I read that it is a bitch to get the refinery because of the amount of profit that you have to make which is made difficult because the average oil price is determined by the number of players producing oil (not just in your region but it seems the entire server).

I am also not getting the comercial zone right. I need to figure out the difference between workers and shoppers. Oh well, a few more hours and then I'll give it another whirl.

Check here for helpful info on block size, how to zone for traffic, etc...

Also, ignore the coloured bars, and go to the population screen and then details to see your worker/shopper needs.

I am very disappointed. I was so looking forward to this game but it is a DRM disaster. This is exactly the game I want to play offline but are forced to be connected all the time. WTF was EA thinking?! They are promoting piracy like nothing else I've seen. Nobody wants to pay R400 for this eff-up system of playing games. One pays R400 for an access token to play an online game here. Cities XL as proposed by AJ seems a far better option. EA can go to hell.

I can honestly say my experience has been pretty good. Havent had a single connection related issue on EuroWest3.

Really cool game
