Absolutely agree re doing to learn - my first attempt wouldn't even qualify as kak. (& it took me 3 tries to type kak) .

Simple image editing app for beginner ?

So far just using standard photo edit on Mac - think I can follow Photoscape videos, haven't downloaded app yet.

That's a start.
In the app that you are using, there may be a lasso tool, the icon would look something like the below. I'm assuming that is what you are using? Then its just a matter of practice, hand-eye coordination.
There is another useful tool, the magic wand (see below) that can "auto" select areas for you. Give that a shot too.

Even that image is fine to use...once it's on some grass or something you hardly notice stuff.

That's really encouraging thanks . I got as far as the mangled image using Mac photos & preview editing (without downloading an editing app), but haven't managed cutting the image & pasting it on another pic.
Still much trial & error to get rid of surround and format save, layer, etc - now very determined

It was a net download to photos, mother & cub - was playing around using Mac Mojave photos & edit tools on preview.
Put your background image (the pic you want to paste into, like the grass scene above) on the bottom layer. Then bring your lion pic in on a layer above that and do your editing. When you're done cropping all you need to do is scale & resize the lion layer and and you export your final image. I like that workflow as you've got some context for what you're doing.

Thanks, checking it out, need simple learner stuff for now but tempted to bite the bullet at that price. So many of the 'free' app blurbs don't say what's available before in app purchases start.

I'm happy with it. So far the best alternative to Photoshop and really great price. I don't do heavy editing, but it is great .

Agreed. The shark in the middle of the wild west was epic. I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw it. @Daisy Cloudskitter you can no longer call yourself a beginner!

Photoshop Elements is something you could try. All the Adobe programmes have 7 day free trials you can activate. Maybe just go for Photoshop CC itself? It's so easy to use, and at least you get a week to experience it
