Single cup manual espresso machine

I am surprised to see people not bothering to clean their machines and then the blame the manufacturer or brand for being rubbish or break easily. Reading reviews on some of the machine, most of the issues can be assigned to being stupid. Visited a friend also with a Breville. I took one look at the steam wand and asked if I can rather have a glass of water.
Haha its basic maintenance like that that drives me mad!

Every time I use my I flush the wand, clean it proper and then clear the porta filter so its good as new when I use it again.

Visited the La marzocco factory in Florence.
They had this mod bar concept. Amazing piece of espresso machine art!

Now if I had a lot of money I’d get this for my espresso bar at home !

So I said I will never to get a breville.

I got this model (BES250 Cafe Venezia) secondhand for R800. Switched it on and it didn't work. Pressure was really low and I thought, flip, wasted my money.

Opened it up. Really surprised at how simple everything is inside. Anayways, one of the little tubes were blocked with calcium/lime build-up. (remember to descale you machines folks!)

Cleaned the pipe and pressure is pumping man! Wow!

Now just need a new steam ring/gasket (it leaks around the portafilter), as ring is damaged due to age and limescale build-up. Ordered new one through @home.

Also have a bracket inside the mahine that has a small leak and is corroded. This one might be difficult to fix depending on parts availability. In process to find a solution. So far I have received excellent service from my local @home branch trying to find a solution.

Anyways, I am extremely impressed with such an affoprdable machine and how easy it is to open up and service.
Steaming works great! (on some weekends I play on commercial machines). Machine literally heats instantly.

The espresso side is okay but because it leaks water is dripping together with the espresso. Hopefully fixed soon.

Oh! And here is an awesome website if you want to check the diagrams and spares for your machine (not to order).

First cup. Waterleak and all.

That looks epic. Any tips on the latte art?

Need to have good milk texture and crema. If one of those two are not good you will have bad results.
Then youtube videos. Find the technique you are comfortable with and that works for you.

I am still a noob as I am a slow learner. But now with the cappuccino machine I will try to improve my skills.

also need a decent milk pitcher and you need to "feel" the temp properly as not to burn it.

Latte art is one thing mastering the steam wand is another. Start there
