Sinotec 42" LCD TV (Auto-brightness adjustment)

I got my LCD back tonight. It doesn't look like anything has changed in the menus, but the flicker is gone. I assume the firmware update just removed the auto-brightness-adjustment, or fixed the bug that made it flicker.

Either way, I am more than happy with the result. I would recommend Sinotec to anybody needing a LCD. It is definitely value for money.
 
The flicker was never a deal-breaker on the set. I suppose it would have bothered me, if I couldn't watch TV or play PS3, but I could do all those things with the flicker creating a minor irritation.
The service, although a little slow was very good (pick up and delivery at a time that suited me). But I'm not judging the product on the service. The product is brilliant, the service was OK.
 
Got my TV today will connect it up and test tonight. I will let you all know the results.
 
ok, what flickering is this you guys speak of?

i use mine as a pc, this is what happens with mine:
-Have a wallpaper displayed
-Open a window, like my computer. the screen now has a "mostly white/bright" window on the right side of the screen.
-now, when I close it, as there is no more window (bright area) the wallpaper kinda "adjusts" and goes brighter.

and when i open a window, the rest goes darker.

is this the same, or what?

it's not THAT noticeable but just wanted to know....
 
Just another update. Since my last post, the flicker has returned. Maybe it was never fixed, and I just didn't notice it that first night.
After speaking to Bradley again, yesterday, I went back to Makro and exchanged my LCD for a new one (exact same set). It seems that this new set doesn't have the problem, but will give it a few more days before making my final judgment.

Keeper, I don't use it on my PC, so I can't comment on your situation. What happened in my situation can only be described as the LCD's brightness being rapidly switched between a very low and high value. This happens randomly and sometimes only lasts for 3-5 seconds. It definitely seems to depend on what it on the screen at that moment, making the screen extremely dark in dark scenes and light in scenes with white on the background.

It doesn't seem to be present on my new set, but will post back in a few days.
 
No such luck

Ok I got my set back today as well, after three weeks wait, and sadly I can only report that my issue is actually worse. I now even get the brighten/darken behaviour when moving around the XMB on the PS3 using the default theme (the one with the 'ribbon' of light behind the menu). Add this to the same behaviour when playing any game with a lot of moody lighting effects, or watching digital video with darker scenes, and the result is a pretty annoying issue to deal with on a TV I coughed up a respectable sum of money for.

Not sure where I'll go with this now, since I naiively let Sinotec whisk my set away within the first month of my buying it, and now I'm sure I'll have an interesting argument with Makro about replacement options since its been nearly two months. They'll just want to send it back to the factory again, for probably even longer. :sick:

Anyway, rant over, I hope you guys have better luck!
 
Woodster, My set is more than 2 months old. I swapped it out for a new set today (after the repairs done did not fix the problem). Phone Sinotec and explain the situation, they know that there is a problem with a few of these sets.
 
While watching Prison Break, the flickering appeared once again. In dark scenes, it becomes so dark, you can't see the people's faces. I am assuming that it is only this model that is giving the problem, as everywhere on this forum Sinotec LCD have been getting rave reviews.

I am going to pack up the LCD (once again) and take it back to Makro tomorrow. It seems that if I want a LCD without this problem, I would need to pay in the R4500 extra to get a Sony or Samsung (exactly what I was trying to avoid).

Woodster, don't try and swap it out for the same model, just swap it out for something else (if you can).
 
Update from my side; I went back to Makro and returned the set. Managed to get a voucher and coughed up the difference to get a Samsung.

Pity about the Sinotec, I was also happy with it aside from the flicker. The service from their side was also pretty good, even if they didn't actually fix the problem :p. From what I could tell most of the delay came from the couriers they used.
 
I also found the couriers to be extremely slow. Also still have a flicker. Exchanged it for another unit. Going to test and see tonight. I must mention that Sinotec arranged for the exchange. Nothing wrong with the service from Sinotec, just the product needs some work.
 
Woodster, please let us know your experience of the Samsung.
I took my set back to Makro and got the full amount paid into my credit card (in the next 3 working days).

I have learned a valuable lesson in this : When getting a recommendation from someone, always get the exact model number as well.

Sure thing man, so far the sammy has been good to me. Very nice contrast compared to the sinotec was the first thing I noticed, and once I'd turned off the NR the PS3 content looked awesome. I haven't had any issues.

I got the 32" Series 3 model, its not full HD but it does have two HDMI inputs. It was on promotion at makro when I went in on Wednesday.
 
Hi i have the 42' pvr model and its excellent. I only have noticed the brightness flickering whilst watching blu ray on ps3. Not sure what to do now. Any other users have this problem with model plse let me know how u resolved it as mentioned earlier there is no way to turn off the sensor eye for hdmi input
