Sinotec 42" LCD TV (Auto-brightness adjustment)

I have recently bought one of these and have read on a few places (on this forum), that people have been able to switch of the auto-brightness adjustment. It has become quite an irritation, because it tends to make the screen flicker. I have however not been able to find any option to switch it off (not in the menu, or in the user manual). Any ideas?
 
AFAIK it can't be changed when watching either TV or using a computer, can't remember which one...

Nope, the first time I heard about the Auto-brightness adjustment causing the flickering was on the forums on mybroadband. Maybe my problem is something different and my TV doesn't have the auto-brightness feature. I'll contact Sinoprima tomorrow and ask them.
 
Sinoprima is still closed for the holiday season. I read somewhere that they only open up again for business next monday. Will try again then.
 
I have the MP-42HW35 which has the built in PVR Recorder. This is a nice unit and all but I have been having similiar issues. I was able to completely turn off the S.Magic Functionality (which has the lighting sensor and brightness adjustement functionalities) but even with this turned off, it has no effect when running something on the Component Input.

I have taken the unit to Sinoprima before, they replaced an eprom on the unit, but getting back home and testing it I still have the same issues, also one HDMI-1 I have a some kind of interference where the screen flickers every so often on random intervals. I used to be able to run a PAL-60 input on my AV inputs before having the unit sent in for repairs, but after recieving it back I can now only run PAL-50, as PAL-60 creates the weirdest images on the screen.

I was initially very excited about my unit, and to be honest I still think I'll be very happy with it, I just want my issues to be sorted. If that can't be done I would suggest a replacement/alternative model unit.

Japie if you have any news or opinions on the subject please let us know.

Bradley from Sinoprima responded to my email today:

"Unfortunately our warehouse is closed so i cant get a unit to check for you
at the moment,but see if you have a function in the menu called light
sensor.and switch it off please let me know if it works,the warehouse will be
open next week then i can get a set to check for you."

As there isn't an option like that, I am awaiting his reply next week when the warehouse is open.
 
I also spoke to Bradley. He suggested that I do the same thing when I spoke to him early in December. This solved the problem for Coaxial input, but has no effect on Component or HDMI hence the reason I took the unit in. This is very frustrating as those two inputs are my main reason for having this unit. I also heard that there was a software upgrade for my specific model, however I am doubting that this is the issue. I am thinking my personal problem is more hardware related than anything else.

Japie, what I suggest you do is look for the S.Magic function and turn it off. I have seen this function on the 32" model of your TV. Hope this helps.
