Sinotec 42" LCD TV (Auto-brightness adjustment)

Yeah I think they are too... I'm just thinking I must have been the unlucky winner of a factory reject.

I LOVE my Sinotec. It works perfectly in all other ways, even the flicker isn't a huge problem! I'm sure with a little patience this problem can be resolved as well.

Japie, what I suggest you do is look for the S.Magic function and turn it off. I have seen this function on the 32" model of your TV. Hope this helps.

According to the manual the S.Magic function is only for demo purposes in-store. It is switched off at the moment, but doesn't make any difference.

S.Magic has 4 modes: On, Off, Demo, and Custom.

On puts the preset factory features on
Off disables all S.Magic features
Demo draws a line in the middle of the screen, one side S.Magic on, the other side (right) S.Magic off.
Finally Custom just enables the S.Magic features you turned on...

My S.Magic has 4 modes, but they are :
OFF - Turns it off :-)
H-SPLIT - Splits the screen in two, with one side S.Magic on and the other off
MOVE - Displays a moving box on the screen with S.Magic on inside and off outside.
ZOOM - Displays a box in the middle of the screen which keeps expanding.

There are no options to select specific S.Magic features!

This is weird. I have the 32 inch model and I don't have a brightness issue.

Strange indeed :D

Any further news on the S.Magic front? I have the 32 inch model and this same issue is driving me nuts playing PS3, streaming video and watching normal TV.

After not hearing anything from Bradley yesterday, I emailed him again and got this response :

"Thank you for your patience,We received new test equipment yesterday and the technical manager has got a unit on test, hopefully I will have an answer for
you by the end of the week.

Regards
Bradley"

Let's hope we get an resolution to this issue. Will keep you updated.

I got a call from Sinotec today regarding my problem. They are going to come and pick up my LCD from home, to do a software upgrade, and bring it back. They have identified that there is a problem with the software on this unit.

This should happen sometime this week. Will keep you updated.

Please do. I have the MP-42HW35, arrived with scratches on screen, so waiting a replacement. Haven't turned it on yet, but would like to know how to fix issue if it appears...

Interesting stuff, they just collected my set two hours ago to ship to JHB and they have given me exact same reason!

Will also post my experiences...

I'm not sure if/how often they do that, in my case they indicated that they needed to do a firmware update on the existing unit.

Flickering

I also bought one of these units and have had the same problem. My unit was collected yesterday for a software upgrade. Please let me Know how any of yours is doing after the upgrade so I will Know what to expect.

I haven't heard anything from them since last week (for them to pick up my unit). I will follow up tomorrow. Please post any updates for the rest of us.

At last, someone came this morning to pick up my LCD. They said it could take anything from a day to a week for me to get it back. Luckily I still have my old TV to fall back on.

Has anybody else gotten their LCDs back and was the problem sorted out?

I got a replacement unit from Makro.

They came to collect the old one and delivered the new one at the same time.

My issue was not a manufacturing fault/problem; my TV was damaged in transit by Makro, so they replaced it.

This all happened this weekend, so will look out for the issues mentioned.

Happy now:)

They phoned me to let me know my TV was ready and that they were waiting for the couriers to collect. That was on Friday. Will post results once I have tested the TV.
