Hi folks

My sincerest apologies for the recent downtime on MyADSL. The problems seem to be sorted out now and we hope that this will not occur again. I am well aware that you guys deserve a better service that this and I will do my best to avoid these problems in future. I think I will need to run a ‘double competition’ this month to make up for it :D

Thanks for your understanding and everybody that informed me about the downtimes and offering to help.

Regards,

RPM

Friday the 13th strikes again! :)

Hmmmmm , interesting that AfriHost make these changes in the middle of the day. These things should occur in the middle of the night so it affects as little users as possible.

I wonder if it isn't maybe because they're sponsoring myadsl they don't have the same commitment to uptime that they would with a normal paying customer. I have a similar situation with one of my sites that gets hosted for free and it occurred to me that the host probably doesn't care too much about looking after a customer they're not making a lot of money from.

The bad part here is that its an extremely bad reflection on Afrihost for myadsl to have so many problems. I would have to think twice about hosting with them after the recent incidents. We all appreciate Afrihost for the hosting and all but they really should try to be more professional with this of all sites, given its enormous reach.

For interests sake how much would it cost to host a site like myadsl that does about 30GB of transfer a month?

surely the site should have been moved to the new server and tested before cutting over ...... planning mense .....

copy site to new server, change host file to point to new server, test AND then cut over dns or whatever ....

What i said was...

RPM, relax mate. Not one of us on MyADSL EXPECT service from you or any other of the management team. We are a community and as such in the same canoe.

Afrihost do a great job and sometimes , well **** just happens. I host a site with them and their service is always superb. I am sure this wont happen again, paying customers or not :D

I am always happy to help out and would have been fine to phone around and chase things down today (or anyday) for MyAdsl - please just shout. You dont have to do this all on your own!

BTW RPM, in my book you are a superstar and a real hero. if you are ever in doubt, just look at all you have achieved here through your vision, your determination and your integrity. I wish i had half your gumption.

Hear Hear.

Listens to the sound of clapping !!!!!! :D

/me looks up the word "gumption"....

rpm, I think that there is the possibility that some new member's accounts were deleted by mistake. I say this because I look at the "number of members" on the main forum page, and I think there are less than what there were when I was last here....

If this is true, perhaps you might like to make it known (in a prominent place) to recently signed-up members that they need to register again?

I want to stress that I don't know if this has in fact happened or not.

i use afrihost on a commecial level and they really have knack for doing the funkiest things at the most inapproproate times... especially with mail serves :D but i have been with several isp's and afrihost have exceptional up time. i think we notice it more with myadsl because this site is constantly used at all times of the day unlike traditional websites. and them moving it elsewhere is only a sign that they possibly doing thigs to improve it or maintain it.

also bear in mind afrihost are sponsoring myadsl which previously had to be hosted abroad so kudo's to afrihost who are doing alot more for myadsl then many other people.

It is sad that posts are missing, I know at least 60 of mine went awol - not that they were important...but I do use the forum as a swapfile for my brainwaves, I don't have a backup - those funky waves have gone to the surfer's paradise in the sky...time for me to accept it...:D

I expect that Debbie2 is correct about some new members needing to re-register - as I understand it the entire forum database was rolled back to where it was on the Thursday 12th ~09:20 - looking at the posts that were around when the forum was reinstated yesterday afternoon...I'm sure RPM can clarify though - I am speaking mostly from what I observed :).

The forum survived well - congrats oaks ! :)

There wasn't a huge amount of important stuff lost.
It will be forgotten by Monday.

I have just experienced another inaccessible thread, I have notified RPM via email.

Please watch this thread for more info...

Hi IC and others

I am not certain what the problem is, but will definitely look into it. Were these threads live earlier today?

Regards,

RPM

Hi RPM

It might be some other problem bcos it has only happened to me once so far [Sat, 14 May 2005 20:11:54] when trying to [thread=17150]view this thread (quite an oldie): DFantom's "Transplanting hard drive" thread in the Off Topic Forum...[/thread]

Apologies if I am the only one that experienced this & have falsely rung the alarm bells...:D

I had a problem with the same thread - sometimes i get all the posts, sometimes only some of them. If you open it from "new posts", no problem. Anywhere else, a problem...
