Pietermaritzburg - Six people were left dead and three others injured when a car allegedly failed to yield at an intersection and collided side-on with a truck.

Emergency services raced to the accident at the Drie*fontein turn-off between Lady*smith and Newcastle, on the N11 on Wednesday.

According to police sources, it is believed that the driver of a grey Toyota Cressida sped through a stop-street without yielding, and the truck collided side-on with the vehicle at a high speed.

It is further alleged that the driver only had a learner’s driving licence.

How the actual fek is a learner driver allowed to have ANYONE in the car other than a single licensed driver..

I remember when I had my learners I wasn't allowed to drive alone, and I wasn't allowed to have passengers in the vehicle other than a single licensed driver.
 
This is what they do...
they drive around with the L sign on the back... and alone I might add...
They somehow think the L sign will make us be forgiving of them...
But often I have seen them cause accidents, and I generally keep my distance because they drive like absolute chumps!

Like everything these days, you just decide which laws suit you and which don't. I've seen cars a number of times here in Randburg CBD, L sign on back, and only the driver in the car...and driving so horribly it can only be a learner driver. Or the licence was bought. Couple of months back one of them was on the uphill part of the aptly named Hill street here. She stalled eight times in peak hour traffic before I managed to get past her.
 
I spoke to one lady I worked with and she said that paying R500 at the police station gives her the right to drive with only a learners. Apparently this was common knowledge.

That would be Miss Moneypenny.
 
Just last week from Pretoria to Benoni on the highway, a "Learner" in the fast lane, doing 20Km/h with no one else in the vehicle. My luck, I happened to be in the same lane and was stuck behind her and could not get past, then all of a sudden, she swung to the left across 3 lanes to get to the left side of the freeway.

Man, I chewed my seat, it was so close to a major f*k-up...
 
Am I the only person that picked up "didnt yield at a stop sign"
Stop signs are not yield signs.
