Skype chat sloooooow

I just started using Skype's text chat feature but the messages take anything up to 10 minutes to go through. Is this normal?

Depends

It depends on where you or the remote party is and how many hops it takes, etc. to get back and forth.. not usual, but it can be caused by bad routing or network. Where are you and the remote party?
I find it can be like that when I am abroad (esp india and africa)

Skype sometimes does it when you chat, that's if your connection is a bit slow or something. It happens to me, it differs from 1 minute too 30 minutes! Don't worry, it's natural

It happens to the voice chat as well but you guys are right its only because of your internet connection.
