So my take is the old "skype for desktop" is borked and is not being fixed...
https://thehackernews.com/2018/02/hacking-skype.html

Now when I go to the skype web site, the desktop download takes me to the Windows store version, but let's face it, it's as buggy as...

I don't get all the notifications when they come through.
Sometimes the sound comes through, sometimes not.
When I open the app, the messages take a few seconds to appear when it opens.
Often I can't be heard and need to restart while in calls.
You can't copy / paste multiple messages like you could in the old version
..etc....

So what is everyone else doing about skype? Also, where are the download links to the old skype for desktop?

Ta!

p.s. comments about 'I've moved on' from skype etc. are welcome but will mostly be ignored. I'm not using it by choice these days. I have way too many contacts that don't all use alternatives.

They've really stuffed it up. I still use it for a few contacts though. We've moved to Discord.

I only use classic Skype. The new ‘Windows’ version sucks. Iirc, only classic Skype supports two instances which I need.

Yep, android is also terrible, uninstalled it when they launched the new version.
I kind of have to thank them, since most of my contacts are finally moving away from the platform.

I use Skype, Hangouts, WhatsApp, Telegram and help desk/RMM ‘chat’ apps daily. Sometimes in a blur, I don’t remember where to locate my contacts. Meh… I’m used to them all though.

Whats the thinking on the vulnerability... wait until it starts being exploited in the wild?

Few months ago they disconnected old versions. This include Skype on iPhone 4 (iOS7), which report "cannot find a server, download new version", but it is the same version I use.

The same happened three months ago on PC, but a new version still works on WinXP. It is using much more data in when idle than the previous version, so I switch it off when not calling. In other words Skype is going down in my records. Try www.telegram.org

I use Classic Skype (7.41.0.101) on Windows 10 (latest build), it still works.
