I just noticed that Skype installed itself on all my Windows 10 PC's, even worse it auto log'ed in and was hanging in my Tasks. Also see in the new Skype I don't see the quit Skype option either. I had to sign out before I could quit.... whats up with that?

I normally mark apps that follow this kind of behavior viruses Microsot. I promptly dealt with it like I do all Viruses..... PURGE that crap off my PC.

Wondering am I the only one that seen this?

Not sure as I have Skype on my PC for work. But I used an older one until Microsoft made it stop working and forced me to update to the latest one. Also notices quit has been removed and then it shows again, sometimes it shows quit, other times it doesn't. Very strange.

I also thought that skype auto installed itself on my work laptop. It was never there as far as I can remember. All of a sudden this week I saw it in my task manager and promptly uninstalled it.

It does that on some fresh installs of Win 10. Happened to me once. I had to remove it via the Windows Store app. Never happened on OS re-install. I guess it remembered my account settings.

Happened to me too - also doesn't have a log out function. So open it - let it do it's thing then click sign out.

You can choose the second option
Sorry screenshot is so big -= but I am lazy tonight

It’s a “feature” of the latest windows update apparently. Skype appears and runs all by itself. Looks like they’re trying to make it a default feature of the OS like IE was. Extremely irritating, especially when it crops up after an update on a Parallels VM which never had Skype and which is the last place I’d want it.

Damn install also on my Work Laptop!!!

Not a fresh install, been using Windows 10 + Office 365 (Without Skype) for years now on multipal PC's. This must have came with an update last week. Either Windows or Office 365

Nope
Im using v8.39.0.180 and all seems fine ... I use it to communicate with suppliers.
Quit option is available ...

This is on v8.39.0.222 That was installed by itself.

No quit.jpg

You have to Sign out, which still let the application run in the background.

Then you get the quit seen bellow:

Even worse you don't get the option in general anymore to block it from starting when Windows starts.

Edit: I am starting to suspect Office 365 as my Work PC's Skype Auto-logged in using Office credentials and not my Windows Login one.

I recently installed Office 2019 and iirc installing Skype was an option (which I deselected). Maybe this comes together with Office 365 as well? So maybe you got it with an Office update rather than a Windows update.

Yip could be on Office365 thing ... looks like you get 60 minutes of free Skype calls to mobile and landline every month included with your Office sub ...

The 60 min's Skype calls are not new, been there for the past 3 years....

Whats new is Skype installing itself, or worse in my view its loging in using your credentials without the need to Approve the log on via 2 Step authentication.

Maybe is trying to synchronise your apps according to your account settings? It was my first guess. I repeat, do not use account login.

BTW, Office is using their own "Skype for Business", but it could change very recently, as if I remember correctly from the announcement "Skype for Business" is dead.

It's pretty much part and parcel of the OS except for legal issues otherwise it would have been pre-installed.

Kinda no way around using Office 365 unless you log into said account in Excel so there goes that idea. As for Syncing I did not have Skype on any PC whatsoever.

Windows will push Skype, and all applications it deems necessary for your survival. It will also update these applications sans your permissions.

Unfortunately this is the case. Despite my diligent removal of a whole range of bloatware (for me), every version update puts it all back.

There's a github set of scripts to remove most of the bloat. ymmv. And of course many other sources abound. Use at own risk. (And make a restore point before you try).

When the next update is released, will Debloater not pickup that certain dependencies are missing from from OS files and request for these files to be installed again?

It's just a set of scripts you run, so there's no runtime component to notice anything. You just have to download latest version and run the scripts in powershell again.
I stopped using it because it didn't do enough. I disable a lot of services after each major update and then run my accumulated scripts to get rid of everything.
