Expensive as in it generates more traffic? That amount of traffic sounds about in-line with my Skype experiences.

Marco probably uses MTN HSDPA where a 100 MB bundle costs R80.

Marco, in my experience Google Talk uses less bandwidth than Skype, and the call quality is the same. I have compared call quality to Canada and at the time the "latency" on Google Talk was lower.

You could also look at Voipraider. If you use the landline phone to phone option the call should only cost 5 Euro cents in total (any length of time up to 1 hour). The phone to phone option doesn't use any bandwidth apart from the small amount required to initiate the call. Take a look at www.voipraider.com or www.backsla.sh/betamax for a list of rates for some of their other services. The service costs 10 Euros for 3 months of access.

I will try Google one as we can sit in the lounge and talk as if she is here with us. Talking into a phone in your ear is so inpersonable and they normally have to repeat everything to everybody.

Thanks, I see now. I had a personalized Google homepage that changed and I relogged in and ho and behold, all ok. It was getting late and I could not think clearly.
