Skype on Nokia N70!!! HORRAY!!!!!

Can anyone give an approximate cost per minute of calling?

it should be simular to skype on a pc. 1mb gives you about 5 minutes talk time. but i would confirm first before getting carried away. Anybody know how we could get some accurate stats?
Here we go

Bear in mind that you still have to add the skype call charges to the data charges. Calling to a cellphone from skype would come to about the same thing as making a normal call. It will only really work out cheaper when calling to a landline during peak hours.

On prepaid I checked my account before logging on and made a 1 minute call to another cell phone fring contact. Then logged off and disconnected. Checked my account again and I was billed for 150kByte. So at R2/MB this works out to about 30c/min. When I called a Skype contact my phone seemed to use a lot more.

I've done some further testing. Before logging on to Fring, I cleared my data counters on my phone. Then I connect. If I make a fring to fring call of 1 minute and then disconnect and check my data counters, it used 100 kByte (total of upload and download) in a minute. This is also the case if I called from my fring phone, to a Google talk contact on a pc.
But if I call a Skype contact from my fring phone it uses about 200 kByte per minute, weird.

I've tried it with my 6680, works fine if ur calling another fring contact (both having 3g coverage)
Phoning Gtalk and Skype contacts had a considerable lag (>10s)...

I guess it'd work great with HSDPA...

It is however a decent mobile gtalk and skype chat client if nothing else

Their purchase system is horrible. Keep trying though, not more than 3 times a day though. Skype are now owned by eBay who are unbelievably paranoid about taking CC payments from South Africa 'coz we're seen as a high fraud risk AFAIK.

I also had major trouble buying my first credits and then I had trouble buying the second time with the same card, go figure.

Has anyone use fring alot, how much per minute are we looking at for a fring to fring call. Will it work on an N 91??

transfers on PC is around ~3kb/sec for just voice services
So times that by 60, u will get +-180kb per min.
in money terms its around 36c per min

approximate cost, worked out from pc VoIP rates~

but hey I could be wrong :p

Any word on Vodacom charging different data rates for VOIP protocol - heard something along those lines was imminent...

Finaly an application that allows you to make use of skype on your mobile.

Has anybody else tested this? I have made a few calls and its not too bad when I am connected to Vodacom 3G. There is a bit of a lag, but its not much worse than skype on my PC. It also supports google talk.

In case anybody is wondering.
This worked well until the iphone and Google Android phones were launched ;-)
