I installed the new version of skype for my mom on her vista basic laptop. She uses Mtn 3G to connect. I have a xp machine, also with the latest skype. When we make a video call to each other, she can see me (video), and her own small webcam video of herself. But I cant see her. Something is blocking her video to to me, or who ever she calls, but we all can see her. The voice call is fine, no hang ups or anything, just the video. I checked the settings (via a skype call to her), and everything is the same as on my side.

What can it be? Maybe the 3g connection? The video from me to her runs smooth, and the voice, so can it be that? Or some setting? The whole time I just see "starting video" on my side. Her webcam works, cause she can see the small video of herself.
I'm so tired of stupid computer issues...

Hmm, its a long shot. Have you installed any codec packs? Or have any of your games installed their own codec packs.

The trick here is to isolate the errors on your PC as that is where the problem is. If you uninstall all your codecs, uninstall and reinstall Skype as well.

Good luck dude.

does your webcam/skype work to any other people?? (obviously your mom's skype is fine, as she can see other people, and her video feed goes out to other people perfectly)

I didn't install anything new for a while now. So you think the problem is on my side?

Yes, it always did. I phoned my sister about 3 weeks ago, and all worked great. Oh, and no, my mom's video feed also didn't go through to my sister.

Maybe try an updated driver for the webcam that isn't working?

What Webcam is she using?

Also, check your firewall for possible issues there.

Maybe try your Webcam on another machine and see if it works properly (Videolan player can also show WEBCAM offline) Just to test the vid/webcam is working

There was a recent skype update fixing a problem with skype 4 that was crashing full screen games causing them to minimize to the taskbar. The update had a list of other fixes as well IIRC. Have you checked skype for all updates? The version 4 would seem to have been a bit buggy on release.

4.0.0.226 is the latest version

So I tested my webcam, all good. I'm busy downloading the update for skype now. Maybe that'll be the solution. Oh and My mom and sister skyped yesterday, and the video went through from my mom to my sister. So then the problem must be on my side. Will see.
