Skyrim

So the first 30 hours of gameplay was perfect, yet, the last 5 hours, 1 of 2 things happen every 15 mins or so :

1. Steam randomly closes
2. My screen goes into power saving mode and wont come out of it unless i restart.

I have never had trouble with steam doing this in the past :(

Also, the power saving mode ONLY happens when im playing skyrim, doesnt happen in any other game/program.

Any ideas?

Yeah man, she has eyebrows that will put Eugene Levy to shame! :o

On an unrelated note, I got my copy of Skyrim today on xbox...it's been nice knowing you guys, see you when Guild Wars2 comes out. :p

tbh skyrim is killing me :P its really addictive hahaha :D so tired + working :D

i play till 1 am each morning , plus sneaking in games if the vrou falls asleep lool. i havent had so much fun since d2 came out . its beyond awesome

Skyrim is going to destroy my exam marks. I have an exam tomorrow and all I want to do is get on my battlemage and kill things.

It took my three restarts to get a character that I was happy with, but after a 2 handed warrior and a destruction mage, I settled on a battlemage using bound weapons and conjuration. Its getting pretty gnarly.

I got a strange problem with skyrim.......I get 3-5 seconds stutters when running or looking around but my fps is around 60 (running it on ultra) the strange thing is if i reload my GF card driver then it stops until i restart my pc then the stutter is back so i load the driver again and it stops until the next restart????

i have tried different driver versions i have unisntalled my drivers and used driver sweep to clear them out of the registry and reinstalled with no luck. I have also tried the various fixes i could find on the net with no luck.

Updated all my drivers

anybody have any idea? cause i have tried everthing i can think of

My system spec is....

i7 2600k 3.4ghz
geforce 560 GTX ti Gf card 1 gig mem
8 gigs kingston low latency ram
2 TB seagate sata 7200rpm HDD
750watt psu

Oh shoot. I love this game. Just been doing random quests, no guilds yet and only did a few main quest missions. Over 30 hours playtime though, and I'm just starting! Lvl27 with full daedric armour and weapons.

Being a fan of the very first original 1st person daggerfall I am so glad I got this game.

Unfortunately it is going to cut into my BF3 practice :(

Am about to join up with the Companions so not too far into it yet.

My only gripe with this game is being forced to use talents you don't want. As in even if you don't want to be an archer and a mage you can't take on a Dragon without one of those. Or lockpicking which also seems to be essential. I want Alchemy and double handed weapons that is it! Maybe I am too old school RPG for this new open-ended system.

Oh and a small bug if you can call it that but funny is when you shoot someone with an arrow while sneaking, he schemes IS SOMEONE THERE?!? then after a short while says must have been nothing or must have been my imagination. In the meantime he has an arrow sticking through his head :D hahaha

Actually, the original was "Arena", to be pedantic :p

I haven't slain many dragons (two or three) with my pure-fighter character, as it's quite new, but I haven't found it to be too difficult without going range. You just need to be patient enough for the dragon to land. Alternatively, you could have your companion attack it with a bow or magic, instead of yourself, until it lands?

Just to add to the dragon slaying tip. Make sure that the area you are in have a big enough area for the dragon to land. I had to fight a dragon close to a mountain top that had a narrow road and no landing space. It kept flying over me using it's breath without landing.

I'm laughing at all you people with your archery and sneaking skills who can't kill a bunny rabbit.

Currently playing on master difficulty. Hardly ever die. Elder dragons die in basically 4 hits (tougher than a frost dragon). I only have problems when I get ambushed by shock mages.

Currently level 43, finished thieves guild, dark brotherhood and the college quests.

Seriously though... Forget stealth and all that crap. Your class makes hardly any difference save for your unique power (which I've never used).

My build currently is:

Conjuration - 100. Nearly all the perks (Best skill tree by far)
Smithing - 100. Nearly all the perks
Enchanting - 70. Nearly all the perks
One handed - 94. Damage perks
Heavy armour - 60 odd. Juggernaut perk only

Everything else is conincidental and pretty useless to me (apart from lockpicking - was useful for the thieves guild quests)

I started with the intention of building a battlemage, so I went for destruction... What a joke of a skill tree. It rapes magicka and does little to no damage (let alone the fact that you miss more often than not).

I used bound sword to max conjuration ASAP and the front atronach until level 75, then I got summon dremora lord. Once conjuration is lvl 100 i upgraded the twin perk so i could summon 2 dremora lords.

I maxed smithing asap to build and improve heavy armour (currently in a full daedric heaby armour setup - with a daedric shield and one handed sword)

How I play: I see baddies, I summon 2 dremora lords, everything dies in 3 seconds. If they run at me - I swing my sword and they die just as quickly.

As for dragons (considering the dremora lords can't attack them in the air) - I summon 2 storm atronachs, they pew the dragon until it lands, I hit the dragon a few times with a legendary daedric one handed sword and it dies. Now that I have the dragonrend shout, it's gotten way too easy. :D

I still haven't shot a single arrow.

*spoiler alert*

Also, someone mention why buy a house. Well, you need one to initiate the dark brotherhood quests.

Just going to add my 2c :p.

So far i am enjoying the game, it runs on high graphics on my laptop (nvidia GT540).
I am playing as a High Elf mage. Currently level 16. Killed about 6 dragons i think. Probably more as i have quite a few shout powers activated. (Slow time is awesome :D).

I am glad they did a good job with the side quests / random walking around. Still as fun as Oblivion. Not touched the main quest yet. Just became the Arch Mage and now i am busy working on getting rid of this cruddy vampire disease.

This sounds pretty cool...so you're a caster in heavy armor?

Should I abandon my current lvl4 wood-elf char with points in sneak/archery or should I just don heavy armor now and concentrate the rest on magic?

Apparently Heavy Armour slows down your mana regen.

I'm playing with a pure war axe/shield character. All daedric stuff. The bleeding damage of war axes in the one hand tree is quite useful against stronger enemies. The only spell I use is healing. The slow time perk from the shield tree is one of the best perks I've learnt. Basically every 2nd attack from an enemy is a power shot so time slows down and you can bash and stagger them before they hit you. I don't like summoning stuff or having anyone help me. So, no companion, no summons, no horse. Walk around everywhere. Also have never used a bow but have killed around 20 dragons now. The Ice Form shout is also my favourite. When I first got it I equiped it immediately and bumped into 2 wolves on the way up a hill. Did the ice shout and watched them freeze solid and tumble down the hill till they died..

Pretty much... I don't use any destruction spells, although I did a wee bit in the beginning. Just max conjuration; you won't be sorry. You'll need to buy the appropriate spellbooks though.

As for slow mana regen in heavy armour, I don't really need mana regen. Those dremora lords facerape anything and everything (make sure you upgrade the twin perk - conujration lvl 100), so all I need is enough to dual cast them. With the half-magicka perk (expert I think) this is fairly easy on my level. I hardly upgraded stamina because I rarely need to power attack.

And yeah, I'd abandon the sneak/archery. Aren't you a little sick of sneak games? (Deus ex: HR, Batman Arkham City, etc) I know I am, so I really just wanted a run-in-screaming type character. :D

As for shouts, I really like the disarm shout and also the ice form shout (See above post)... Oh... And dragonrend obviously.

Also, if you can get a resist shock item, I'd highly recommend it. It's the only time I die, when there's a mage chilling somewhere firing off lightning bolts at me.

I`m a sneaky archer with a dagger for stabbing enemies if I can get close enough. I like playing that way. Would concentrate on building the strongest possible character if it was multiplayer.

What I realised playing oblivion is that the game became boring when I had an uber character that could kill everything in the room with 1 fireball.

Just create the type character you want to roleplay, doesn`t matter whether its a fist-fighting argonian monk, or a kajit herbalist.
