Skyrim

Yup, playing it as I type. Decided to reinstall and add some mods (improved UI, HD textures etc.). Loving it all over again.

the mods are awesome. i use the STEP guide on which mods go well together.

the improved UI makes the game playable (the ported console UI sucks on PC)

Linky? Please. I see there are some awesome new version 3 mod but are scared to install for fear of stuffing up what I already have.

So should I reinstall and start again with some mods?

most of the mods won't affect save games. they are textures and meshes and UI tweaks. there are mods that affect the saved games, but normally all the kinks can be worked out by sleeping for a few days in an empty prison cell or room.

the game looks WAY better with the boosted gfx

that is a collection of good mods as assembled by some dude with taste and discernment. i have found it to be an excellent guide. downloading them all will take a while (and about 30GB). but so worth the effort.

thanks I played so long ago just want to start a new character.

Gave me motion sickness so stopped playing

i also get motion sick. some solutions:
1) sit further away from the screen
2) get seasickness tablets ($$$, make you drowsy) OR ginger tablets (if you take them often, no more than two a day)
3) look away from the screen every so often (i have a large skyrim map on my wall to which i refer continuously)
4) play at a higher resolution OR change the field of view to further away (from the console (hit ~ to access) type in "FOV 80") - this reduces the screen shake

you can buy ginger tablets with no prescription at most pharmacies. R80 should get you a large bottle.

:) - too much trouble - playing D3 instead

I built a new PC so I decided to load up Skyrim to mod it and burn my new HD7870.

Used the RealVision ENB mod from here: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30936/?

The guy has all the recommended mods with the load order. I've loaded about 60 mods all the recommend ones from the link. The game now runs at about 40fps outdoors which is fine. A couple screenshots:

I must still tweak the lighting during sunshine as it seems slightly too bright.

jaw -> dropped

Do one of those mods change the appearance of clothing as well?

No but there are mods for that available if you want. I think the textures and meshes of clothing are improved with a couple mods though.

The mods on that page improve all the textures and lighting to realistic levels. Some of them add new plants and trees and revamp them. Basically every little thing has been improved.

The lighting especially is realistic. If you're in a part of a cave with no light or outside on a cloudy dark night you will not be able to see anything at all. Just pitch black. So you need a torch. Or get the wearable lantern mod which clips onto your waist. It makes exploring more fun. There's almost zero ambient lighting compared to the unmodded game where you can see everything just fine in caves and at night without any light source around.

Pictures don't really show the living/breathing world though. Check out some of the modder's videos. This is what it looks like on my pc as well.
