Skyrim

I'm now in a place that was relatively easy to kill everything besides the final boss characters :( now it impossible I hardly make a scratch on them even with a bodyguard. I guess I have to turn around and come back later but it is frustrating, makes me think my character is weak even though he wields a massive magic two handed war hammer.

But still only lvl6 so I guess I am just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It is the Source of power at Volunruud or something like that.

What I realised playing oblivion is that the game became boring when I had an uber character that could kill everything in the room with 1 fireball.

Just create the type character you want to roleplay, doesn`t matter whether its a fist-fighting argonian monk, or a kajit herbalist.

What i found was that i was able to 1-hit KO quite a few things in Skyrim with Chain Lightning. I thought it was a little over powered. Now i see that most things can easily 1-hit KO me also so i find that to be quite balanced :p.

How can I get stronger spells other high that adept?

I've been to the College of Winterhold, spoken to the npc's that apparently sell stronger spells but nothing, they all have the same list of spells I get from the court wizard in Whiterun

The one thing I found useful was (*spolier?*) asking the Greybeards where they hear words of power. They add a marker to your map and you can get a guage where to find words....

Enjoying the game quite a bit, gained 10 levels last night just maxing out smithing, enchanting and most of alchemy from all the materials i've hoarded from the beginning (500 in weight just from potion ingredients :wtf: ) Thought the dragonscale armor would be more wow, seems a little bland compared to Daedric.

Here's a bit of an immersion/game breaking mechanic... highlight at own risk.

<spoiler>
All the 'fortify' enchants stack directly which means you can effectively have 100% casting cost reduction.
With the 2 enchants on one item perk, that's free spells from 2 schools at same time. Should be able to level say restoration and conjuration in record time, find a wolf or something and soultrap right hand, heal left hand and permacast...

There's also a potential 'godmode' , but I won't elaborate on that. Hopefully they fix that in a patch.

</spoiler>

I didn't touch enchanting perks because of that, using the loop is stupid...check out youtube for people 1 shotting Ancient Dragons on Master difficulty

Btw Dragonscale is the light armor, Dragonbone is the heavy armor

I like enchanting. But the fear one is a bit annoying since you have to chase guys after they yield :)

Good question, I too am looking for decent spells other than flame and sparks. Where do I go to buy this stuff or is it quest items only?

You can get your books from the wizard dude in the jarl's palace in Whiterun in the beginning. You gotta buy them unfortunately, but they're not expensive.

Later on, when your choice of magic is higher, you can get your books from the relevant people at the college.

I'm not gonna drop spoilers as to who they are though.

I'm level 45 and still can't access the stronger spells :( Been to all those relevant people (looked them up on UESP)

I'm on 52 destruction

Sitting on 72 Destruction and still don't have any spells better than Chain Lightning :-/.

Once your skill level in a specific school of magic is high enough, the tomes become available at the trainers/merchants. For master level spells, you need to complete a specific quest though.

Ah ok, makes sense...I just joined the Mages and haven't started questing for them yet.

I'll focus on my destruction this evening then :p

That would also explain the bug I have:

I picked up a Command Daedra spellbook in a dungeon, learnt it, equipped it and then when I try summon it, it uses magicka but doesn't summon

Command or Summon? I've got a Summon Dremora Lord spell, the Command one might be to take control of hostile creature?

Question for the assassins:

Gear: Ok I know light armor is a must. I'm assuming light armor as a set, no other types in between.

Weapons: Which is primary/Secondary? Ranged/Melee? For Melee, do you use daggers exclusively or dagger/sword combo? I'm running with a fine iron and fine steel dagger atm, with points shared between 1hand combat and archery.

Spells: Do you make use of them? Healing? And do you only equip them when the need arises? Or do you roll with one equipped?

Shouts: Any advice?

Magicka/Health/Stam: So far I've upgraded 3lvls of Health. Should I focus on others?

I'm still a lvl4 woodelf and very soft indeed. I can't put a dent in the whiterun town guards.

What should I focus on as professions/skills? I'm lockpicking everything I find (successfully so far), but I'm wondering what I should put points into?

Nope, light or heavy, light is better for stealth classes...theres an awesome Light Armor perk that gives +50% stamina regen when wearing full light

I run with 2x Glass swords for when the skooma hits the windmill, I have 2x daggers enchanted with Soul Trap for stealth kills and a Glass Bow for ranged pewpew/openers

Spells: Do you make use of them? Healing? And do you only equip them when the need arises? Or do you roll with one equipped?

I run with Fast Healing (+50 healing), I only equip it (and dual wield) when in need of healing/running away/after combat. I've played around with some of the destruction magic, the fire is great against undead

Shouts: Any advice?

Elemental Fury for melee combat when not in stealth, Throw Voice for distracting enemies when stealthed, Ice form for CC. I use Aura Whisper the most when creeping around. If you're still squishy, the Disarm shout is great against those 2h mofos that decapitate you

Magicka/Health/Stam: So far I've upgraded 3lvls of Health. Should I focus on others?

Stamina is what your power attacks (main dagger kills) require, at your level I could get 1 maybe 2 attacks off, now I can get 8-11...I have 240 stamina though. Health is probably the best stat because once you get strong enough (stealth 15x damage perk), you'll need the health for when you get spotted

If you put points into Archery at all, theres a steady aim perk that drains stamina A LOT

What should I focus on as professions/skills? I'm lockpicking everything I find (successfully so far), but I'm wondering what I should put points into?

In fear of making your character hopelessly OP and boring, I'd suggest not power leveling these 3 professions - enchanting makes your enchanted weapons/armor stronger...alchemy makes your potions/poisons stronger...smithing makes the best armor and weapons

The synergy with these 3 skills can reach game breaking levels

I haven't found the lockpicking perks worth while in my opinion... at 98 lockpicking, master locks open with ease (without any perks in the tree)

I want to restart this game :(

Flip I am never happy with my choices in RPG this is always a problem.

You're right, it's command, only works on raised/summoned mobs

My next character will be a battlemage with 2x storm atronachs to fry anything in my path :p
