Skyrim

Anything filled with Grand souls, so Grand Soul Gem, Black Soul Gem and both versions of Azura's Star.

For Azura's star, browse to it in your inventory and it will tell you the 'size' of the soul it currently holds....

Sweet thanks, finally managed to sort it out last night. Got me the dwarven bow with the soul-trap enchant on it. Man that thing is the bee's knees!

Now I'm running out of soul gems :/ Made myself glass daggers to put enchants on using azura's star.

Currently my smithing is on 87. I'm able to upgrade certain gear/weapons to "epic". I have 13 dragon scales (and 15 bones, but I doubt i'll use them) I'm guessing that I'll use it for making dragon scale armor when I reach 100. Is there any light armor between glass and dragonscale? I see on the right-hand tree they have dwarven/orc/ebony etc. but I'm guessing that's all just heavy armor.

How does glass armor compare with the set you receive from the dark brotherhood/thieves guild?

I've only done a few story quests for the Thieves guild, the armor is meh in comparison to Dragonscale

Theres nothing between Glass and Dragonscale btw

You'll only need 14 Dragonscales for Dragonscale armor (10 for the items, 4 for improving)

I have 68 Dragon bones in my storage, I might make heavy armor for a companion if I find a decent 1

Guys whats the best way to get dragons to land on ground? I have no ranged attack and the crappers keep landing on the roof of buildings where I cant reach them

Lure them to the flat lands outside Whiterun. Alternatively, geta staff that does bolts of damage if, like me, you're adverse to levelling up skills that your character wouldn't have.

Or give a companion a bow!

Yeah if you have nothing to damage over range, the only thing you can use are shouts which cause damage (there's that ice-breath one I can't remember the name of etc) until it reaches a certain level of health, then they normally land and don't take off again.

Otherwise try fight it in an open area (ran into a BIG problem when I encountered one in a narrow passage heading up a mountain when I was lowlevel). They may just land once or twice 'naturally' during the fight.

Going to have some fun tonight!! Found my first Elder Dragon last night and got ripped to shreds a couple of times before calling it a night.

The plan for this evening is to go and do it properly, find a nice big tree to hide behind and take this sucker down!

So I've been reading a lot of other forums that people complain the game is too easy.

Anyone have opinions on this?

My thoughts are that the game is very much what you make of it. I have solely focussed on my Archery, Light Armor, Lock Picking and Pick Pocketing skills thus far, with a little bit of One Handed tossed in. I plan to Alchemy when I get the time and guess that I will have to take up smithing and enchanting at a much later stage.

Due to the skills I have chosen my armor and weapons are limited to what I can find or buy.

As for actually playing, I prefer my bow over everything else at this stage (level 36). Yes, in most instances I can get a one shot kill on a lot of mobs, if this doesn't happen I have to make sure I can stay hidden to get off additional shots. If a group comes at me I have to be in a position that I can move, shoot and stay hidden while I pick off the guys one by one. If I can't stay hidden I'll switch to daggers and consume a lot of health potions while trying to melee, this is 50/50 at best. In the rare instances I can't get a decent shot off with my bow I'll sneak up and steal the weapons and armor off my target before attacking them with a dagger. This all works for me.

When it goes wrong with the sneaking part I know that I'm in for a rough ride. Mages need 2-3 hits to get me down, Giants make me bounce very quickly and I have a huge dislike for ice trolls. Dragons are basically 2 hits and I'm toast.

Thus in the situations where I can't use my normal style I need to adapt in order to kill. With dragons for example this entails taking a shot and running towards the nearest tree to shield me from their breath, when they stop, pop out and take a few more shots and hide again.

All in all though I really enjoy everything I experienced so far and have not found the game all that easy. I'm sure I could make it a lot easier by doing my smithing and enchanting now and equiping myself to the hilt, but why? The challenge from not doing this is fun!

Those that say its easy are the hardcore players that are already on their 3rd playthrough after maxing out their other characters to level 81 already. Put the difficulty on the hardest and it will give you a run for your money. Unless you are doing smith and enchanting, then nothing is a match for you.

Arzy,

I run the same build as you. Dagger combat sucks ass. It's nice for a takedown, but after that you're screwed. I'm absolutely loving my bow. It's the most fun I can have in the game, esp with the slow time shout + 50% eagle eye time slow & 30% faster bow stringing.

I think people who chose to be fire mages are finding the game quite easy. A mate of mine even said he feels to overpowered and made himself a 2H wielding brute instead.

Get your smithing up, it's really worth it and a lot of fun. Plus it'll give you something to do with all them dragon scales lying in your trunk. :) My lvl 28 dude is rolling in full epic glass armor and weapons.

When I do smithing I'll most likely skip over the glass route and go around the daedric side.

My thinking is that the daedric bow and daggers are better than glass and I can still make dragonscale armor.

Strictly speaking I shouldn't be getting hit so the armor doesn't bug me.

I thought the dwarf/orcish/ebony/daedric route was all heavy armor oriented...

It is, but a daedric bow and daggers are better than the same glass items and then you can still do dragonscale armor in the light version.

There's a new patch out. Update 1.2.

Google first and decide whether you want to install it though. It created more bugs for some people, such as dragons flying backwards and more crashes to desktop etc. etc. The game works fine for me so I'm not going to update until there is a decent (safe) patch out.

A question(s) on levelling smithing.. I started out yesterday by buying up a bunch of iron ingots and leather strips and going crazy making iron daggers. Is this the best approach to levelling up on Smithing?

Secondly what are the downsides to powerlevelling Smithing? For starters I notice that it has bumped me up 2 levels (Level 30) which means some mobs just got bumped up as well? Also do I need to drop perk points into Smithing and if so which route should I go. In other words do I go for glass armour as a sneaky archer dude?

Lots of questions, I know but I want to prep for a Skyrim weekend... :)
