Skyrim

A question(s) on levelling smithing.. I started out yesterday by buying up a bunch of iron ingots and leather strips and going crazy making iron daggers. Is this the best approach to levelling up on Smithing?

Yes. While you're at it, enchant the daggers with 'fear' or some such to level enchanting & sell it @ 150g each. Profit.

Secondly what are the downsides to powerlevelling Smithing? For starters I notice that it has bumped me up 2 levels (Level 30) which means some mobs just got bumped up as well?

Mobs are area dependent I've found, I can 2-shot giants around Whiterun now (@lvl30), but in other areas they're tougher. Also, the armor / weapons you make will be far more beneficial than mobs gaining extra health.

Also do I need to drop perk points into Smithing and if so which route should I go. In other words do I go for glass armour as a sneaky archer dude?

Lots of questions, I know but I want to prep for a Skyrim weekend... :)

Yeah you do, I am on 96 in smithing now and I went the Elven-Glass route to allow for crafting light armor. Dwarven/Orcish/Ebony/Daedric is the heavy armor route.

Save the dragon scales from each dragon you kill so you can make dragon scale armor when you reach 100.

EDIT: Archer tip: There is an archery merchant in Solitude that stocks a single Ebony arrow (20 dmg), highest I've seen so far. Take that arrow and give it to your travel buddy & issue him/her with a bow. This causes them to shoot any longe range targets with the ebony arrow (which never runs out of stock), allowing you to loot ebony arrows and build up your stock thereof. :D

I'm patiently waiting for you to encounter your first Draugr Death Overlord :D

Dual wielding 79 damage daggers, 15x sneak bonus attack on one of those... it gets up, shrugs off the scratches from my daggers and FUS RO DAHs me into the wall

Hmm I took one on the other day in a quest. The only option was ultra sneak and arrow the thing to death. My principle is it cannot hurt you if it cant see you!

@Voicy, shot for the advice dude, never thought about enchanting them but profit does sound appealling! I will go Elven-Glass as well. On a side note, is dragon armour not heavy armour?

Well yes and no.

Dragon armor proficiency gives you the ability to craft heavy armor from dragon bones or light armor from dragon scales. Both of which you loot from killing a dragon.

A little tip regarding making elvish armor, I could not for the life of me find any quicksilver ingots vendors to craft it, but I found that after mining it in the Quicksilver mine in Dawnstar, it became available from most blacksmiths. Also, it's cheaper just to go mine it...there's also an iron ore mine next to it which helps you get your smithing up even more :)

When I found my first 1, I thought "lol, let me give him an arrow to the head", my stealth bow attack attack did next to no damage, so I quick loaded and tried the daggers... didn't kill him either. I realized he was using Frost cloak after my sneak attack took more stamina than normal, I must have used about 6 Ultimate Healing potions on just that 1 Draugr :erm: Between the Disarms, Unrelenting Force shouts staggering me everytime and his Ebony 2hander... he was on par with the first time I encountered Krosis :( Marked For Death shout (rank 3) saved my life!

I'm now quite a lot stronger, and they aren't that much of a challenge anymore...but they are still deadly if I don't focus

Dragonbone is heavy, Dragonscale is light...both are unlocked when you get the Dragon Smithing perk

Daedric Arrows are 35 base damage ;) Also found at that merchant in Solitude... rather rare though. I camped him for about a week ingame to get 100

I think I've been playing too much, I saw some purple flowers and wanted to walk up to them and click on it :wtf:

Last weekend while i was playing paintball and a butterfly flew past me.... i took 2 steps in its direction and thought to myself " wtf am i doing?? " then i lol'd :P

The 1.2 patch messed things up for me, there's no damage resistance anymore. Makes playing the game not a lot of fun, I get killed way to quickly now. And one can't roll back the patch on Steam, which sucks.

Quick question and I am not going to read through 37 pages so it might have been mentioned:

How big is the after install update?

Siting on a capped line and dont want to buy something I can not play.

The after-install patch was 200Mb and the newest update was 30Mb (I think).

There was a 200mb First Day release patch, then a 57mb patch I got a couple days ago
