I think you might be correct Seburn...
Well it's either that they don't like the fact that we had an opportunity to choose our own IP's (thanks Seburn) or as you suggested MRH, they are indeed trying to resolve the connectivity issues - either way my MSN (L), Yahoo and Skype are maintaining their connection to the servers, however with some sites I still have to continuously re-login and with an older version of MSN as well.
I’m now on a 69 IP which does seem to deliver a better access speed than the previous 70 IP, but it is still static and inconsistent. All they have to resolve now is maintaining the access speeds at the higher end of the spectrum. According to Ed he monitored 450 modems connecting to the Gardens tower (Load 1 for interest sake) and by his calculations each modem should have obtained an average speed of 500 kbps. I am not totally convinced about the accuracy of this statement of his; however he seemed quite adamant that this was the case. (Hopefully I am quoting him correctly, since by this time in our conversation I was starting to become rather agitated.)
Therefore the investigation into the older modems and or older modems firmware as a possible cause of the slow speeds and the connectivity issues. However when the technician did a RF scan at my premises recently with his newer version modem compared to my two earlier edition modems, it was quite clear that the earlier edition modems outperformed the newer models as it received a better RF signal of a few dB’s.
One thing Ed mentioned that disturbs me - He seemed convinced that it is only a few users that are affected; however I personally know of six users, myself included. I can understand that this might not be a top priority to solve as it equates to less than one and a half percent of the users connecting to the tower, if he is being forthright, (which I doubt as I am a sceptic).
All I hope for is that they can resolve the issue soon and that I will be able to utilise the internet permanently between the hours of 09:00 and 17:30. At present it seems I’ll have no option but to go the Vodacom route if they don’t resolve the network connectivity issue soon.
Sorry this is turning in out to be a monolog….
