Slow Speeds

Speeds are not up to standard but I'm still tied to a static IP as I tried to change it but it stays the same.
This IP is probably dying though if your speeds are back.

I'll wait awhile and see if they change it back to dynamic, as it could be a good test to see what happens to it as time goes by.
Maybe it picks up later as long as they don't expect me to pay them for a static IP since I'm not prepared to pay for something I did not ask for.

Just let us know if or when your speed decreases.

Michael I take it your speeds have been reasonable all day since you never said otherwise yet.
Mine started picking up a bit from around 15:00, still nowhere like it was before the "tower upgrade" but it could be that my IP is dying but I can't change it until they put me back on a dynamic range.

Unusable most of the day!

No on the contrary, the net was unusable most of the day! Could not use it from 9am until 3pm when it became usable again and got speeds back at 18:30!

iBurst is useless, I’m so sick of this ****!!!

Damn thats a pity as when you never posted I thought there was at least some hope if I got another IP.

I see there are some more complaints in the blog.
I have never posted there and probably never will.

Well my internet was surprisingly fast today, during the morning.. strange.

It was nice though, and the coming 2mb along with 135mb per tower does sound nice.. Put that with a new tower and in about 2 years I should be happy with my iBurst.

okay, I''m actually hoping it will come sooner than that :(

EHV, are you on a dynamic or static IP right now, as for the past few days I've been stuck on a static IP?

Weird that you should be getting fast speeds from Plumstead whereas I'm crawling along most the day even though right now it seems ok again.

Ja, I guess its just intermittently good or bad, but mine has been okay for the last day or two afaik... There might have been osme bad times, but this morning was definitely good.

Interesting about the static IP.. ill check now. Well atm im on a .64, but I cant disconnect it now, someone else is browsing. Maby giving static IP's was part of the upgrade to CPT? Seeing as we had IP related problems.

You might be right about them giving static IPs for those problems, except now when it's slow I cannot change IP to find out if a new IP will be any better.
As far as I'm aware they only set us on static IPs while they were busy sorting out the problem in CT.

Anyway let us know what you find on your side when you get the chance please.

I think you might be correct Seburn...

Well it's either that they don't like the fact that we had an opportunity to choose our own IP's (thanks Seburn) or as you suggested MRH, they are indeed trying to resolve the connectivity issues - either way my MSN (L), Yahoo and Skype are maintaining their connection to the servers, however with some sites I still have to continuously re-login and with an older version of MSN as well.

I’m now on a 69 IP which does seem to deliver a better access speed than the previous 70 IP, but it is still static and inconsistent. All they have to resolve now is maintaining the access speeds at the higher end of the spectrum. According to Ed he monitored 450 modems connecting to the Gardens tower (Load 1 for interest sake) and by his calculations each modem should have obtained an average speed of 500 kbps. I am not totally convinced about the accuracy of this statement of his; however he seemed quite adamant that this was the case. (Hopefully I am quoting him correctly, since by this time in our conversation I was starting to become rather agitated.)

Therefore the investigation into the older modems and or older modems firmware as a possible cause of the slow speeds and the connectivity issues. However when the technician did a RF scan at my premises recently with his newer version modem compared to my two earlier edition modems, it was quite clear that the earlier edition modems outperformed the newer models as it received a better RF signal of a few dB’s.

One thing Ed mentioned that disturbs me - He seemed convinced that it is only a few users that are affected; however I personally know of six users, myself included. I can understand that this might not be a top priority to solve as it equates to less than one and a half percent of the users connecting to the tower, if he is being forthright, (which I doubt as I am a sceptic).

All I hope for is that they can resolve the issue soon and that I will be able to utilise the internet permanently between the hours of 09:00 and 17:30. At present it seems I’ll have no option but to go the Vodacom route if they don’t resolve the network connectivity issue soon.

Sorry this is turning in out to be a monolog….

Thanks for the info Michael, but as far as I'm concerned I'd rather have the dynamic IP and just change IP when the older one dies or slows down, right now with a static IP and it crawls I do not have that option to try another IP.
I don't care if I'm one of the few that is having the dead or slow IP, I'd rather have the option to change the IP and look for a more stable one.

I'm still waiting for EHV to test to see if he has a static or dynamic IP.

Does anyone else reading this thread in CT still have the dynamic IP range or have we all been put onto a static IP?

Michael, maybe I'm getting confused here but in post 120 of this thread you said: "I am nolonger tied to the 70 IP, on dynamic IP 69 this morning and speeds are back up, I've noticed that my RF signal is up by a few points again - back to what it was before."
If thats so then I take it you are back on dynamic or am I mistaken?

Maybe post a new thread?

I doubt if EHV is affected, it seems that they have only set the modems that connect to the Gardens tower to static IP’s. This is surely for statistical purposes, to obtain as much information about the modems and users that connect and their data rates. (This raises a privacy concern with me, but that’s off topic.)

Maybe it will be a good idea to post a new thread and ask users in Cape Town area that connect to Gardens and other towers to report if they have static IP’s and what their IP’s are and what their connection rates are during specific intervals during the day. Then one would be able to have some comparative data.

Unfortunately there are very few Cape Town users on this forum as it is Joburg based, or that is the perception at least.

Sorry correction...

Sorry, I never corrected that post. I assumed that I was back on a dynamic IP when I noticed that it has changed and did not bother to check it again, however I am still on the same second static IP in the 69 range.

Will correct it now!

I've noticed that most of you in CT have reported ".69", ".64" and ".70" IP ranges. Exactly where in the IP address are those two digits located because here in Pretoria I never get those numbers in an IP. Or is it only in CT?

But I also got a static IP when you did and I am on the Plumstead tower and not Gardens tower.

EHV is on the same tower as I am thats why I asked him to please check and let me know.

Well then the issue is widespread...

Well then the issue is much bigger than I thought - if multiple towers are affected - it seems it is the core network then. No wonder Ed was getting so uptight.
