I'll keep it short and sweet.

I'm very grateful for what I have and what has been given to me, but I've had enough of the negativity and constant judgment of who I am and what I stand for. From the start of the day to the end of it, my life feels like a complete target practice event and I'd like a change.

I'm 31, no dependents. Some debt (I need to work to be able to settle this).
I'm not a whiz kid and won't be the next Shuttleworth, but I'm in IT Support and have been in a management position for some time.

I need a change. I need a new life. I need a new town. I need a new lifestyle even if it means money is tight. Doesn't phase me much, never has and never will.
I'm not about to look into the Corporate ladder again and I'm not about to look into trash cans either, but I am standing up for myself.

If anything, I'm sad I'm only doing it now.
My family doesn't care much for me either, so I'm not leaving anything behind.

Please give me some ideas as to what direction to look into.

Thanks :)

What debt do you have? Do you own a home? Is it mortgaged?

What would make you happy?

Teach English in Thailand?

Have thought about doing this... Do you know need to do the TEFL, first?

Yes. But PM Poffle, or notify him about this, He did it and is a large source of data on the subject.

@OP, Aren't you in Nelspruit? Surely you'll get an increase no matter where you go? Or is IT big in Nelspruit?

The debt I have is less than R50K, mainly things like household items, credit cards etc.
I don't own a home (thankfully).

What would make me happy is if I could live at a quiet coastal town, with nice people and have a great group of friends and just live life. Work hard, play hard.

OP, if one thing was to change right now, to make you happy - answer that, then focus on that going forward.

I feel the same way except I'm in a lot more debt.

But, think before you leap. Happiness is the product of two things - your attitude and your environment. Right now you are unhappy in your environment - can you guarantee that you would be happy in a new environment?

I think you first need to take a long look at your current environment to discover what about it makes you unhappy. When you know that, you will have a better idea of which new environment to leap into. It may be that living in a small coastal town would frustrate you because you wouldn't know anyone.

Is it your social circle friends that gets you down? Is it insufficient quality of friends, or quantity? Are you single, dating or married?

Move to another city. Any city. It gives you perspective and a fresh take on life.

Screw corporate rock. you need to be folk rock!

Start your own business. think of something innovative and bam!

Why not go into teaching kids and young people about technology...

Good advice, which is what I'm doing. Negative judgment. I just can't take this slow death anymore. If someone throws a blunt knife at you for months on end, yes you become tough. You get a thick skin. You think after a while, Man, I can face anything, because I'm really able to face the whole crowd and their negative attitudes, all their hate is nothing. But deep down, you hurt. You are only human. Your psyche can only process so much pain.

Please see above. It's not so much the environment. I am no.1 supporter of this town, this province, this place. But I've just had enough.
I'm single, not dating and not interested in dating. But I do want friends and I love socializing and having a laugh and fun.
