Small automatic SUV for city driving

Unfortunately this is an industry problem, I know people who have waited for spares from other more well known car brands for months as well, from Mini to BMW to Mercedes Benz to Peugeot.
Personally I have not experienced waiting for parts on current model cars I owned like in the case with the Tiggo (just my personal experience)...

I know on my dad's 2000 model Merc I had to import a part because it was not available in SA at an exorbitant cost. Understandable as it is an old car...

Having said that, Chery Sandton seems to be one of the best Chery dealers with people often complimenting them for service levels if want to look further at the tiggo

In that case, have you considered a Touareg?
Especially the ultimate version - the V10 TDI... 😛

The V8 TDi is a far better engine than the V10 TDi was but if we're going to go balls in deep...

I'm also hunting for a replacement for my 13 year old Corolla. Was looking at Tiggo 4 Pro, nice price and specs, but I'm not too keen to settle on it.

Currently being offered a buddies 2023 Corolla Cross XR non hybrid with 13000km @ around 370k.
Should I or shouldn't I?

If they are reliable that looks like a really epic deal R300k for a 1.5L automatic(albeit 4sp slush box it seems) with a very high safety spec and nice non-Chinese(overly futuristic or engineered lines)looking design.

It’s 100% Chinese.

Maybe worth at least a look, MG ZS.

https://www.mgmotor.co.za/mg-zs.html

Automatic by default.
6 airbags etc.
I don't know too much about MG except for their older cars. Will need to do some research in terms of dealerships and reliability as I dont think there is going to be too much local information available, but it looks like a really solid option in terms of the car itself. Thanks

edit: Looks like the engine is pretty underpowered, and in Gauteng it will be even more so

IF it's just city driving why not go EV?

There isn't much available on the secondhand market in our price bracket unless buying from a low rated dealer or an oldish / high mileage car. The wife doesn't drive too much so i'd rather stick to a safer option as we've had some bad experiences with secondhand vehicles.

Well I have never driven one but the Haval Jolion seems very popular. When picking up kids at schools, every second car is a Jolion
Should get a low mileage one in your price range as bnew the cheapest ones go for 350k
And at least the have a better name than a Chery

This is the most important part of buying secondhand car. Rather pay more and buy from a well know Franchise dealership or a very high rating secondhand dealership.
When I bought recently I just looked at dealers that have 4.5+ stars/rating on Google and have been in business for 5+ years and have 100+ reviews.
Literally every dealer I walked into that had less than that, you could here the BS from salesman within minutes.

Well done for reading with comprehension this time, now actually think about the claim you are making..
The MG ZS is in a totally different class in looks and spec to a 2015 Chery Tiggo

I read with comprehension from the very start.

It looks like an old Chinese design concept not a British inspired classic at all.

It could have been a new and fresh design without being “modern Chinese” but instead it just looks dated.

The Cyberster got it right.
